Talking Clio V6

Had a chance to drive a Mk2 Clio V6 last night - what a cracking car
Yeah, it was a bit twitchy, the interior is crap, the pedals aren't spaced right (for me), the sitting position is wrong (again, for me), but with those looks and the sound of that engine you'd forgive it everything. What a beast - I've never had so many looks driving a car. It's an event just in 1st and 2nd and the popping on the overrun when you rev it is to die for. Damn quick too. I really fell for this car in a big way

And no, I don't care that a 182 is technically quicker

You do care really, else you wouldn't have mentioned it

I don't think a 182 is technically quicker anyway cos a) it's slower to 60 and b)it's slower at the top end. How that is technically quicker is beyond me

Unless you mean VFM wise.

The 182 is easier to park and has more litres in the boot, but isn't as quick as the V6.

I think the V6 Clio is one of those cars that you like despite the fact it is expensive to buy run and service, poor lock to lock, not 'that' quick etc, poor seating dodgy handling etc etc but i feel the same about the Alfa 156 GTA. It is an Alfa, if doesn't handle, no traction etc etc, but i love it in the same way i love the MG ZT 260.

Cars you would love to have, but wouldn't buy !

The 182 is faster as its the one passing you and flashing you while you travel through a hedge backwards

Sounds like a great car !
Its slower than a 182, Its more expensive, the pedals are in the wrong place, The seats are in the wrong place, the interior is crap.
Everyone thinks your name is Nicole........

But at least the engine sounds nice.

No thanks

You mean the 182 going understeering into the aforementioned hedge?

I don't know why (well I do, its the looks) but I'd absolutlely love a Clio V6.

I very nearly bought one aswell, until I saw a 350z and opted for one of them instead. Don't get me wrong I love the Z, but there's something somewhere telling me to sell it and get a Clio

I've spun in one.

I was in the passenger seat though so can't be blamed To be honest i'm quite glad it happened. It was one of those cars which for some stupid reason I always fancied owning. But now having seen its understeer and then snap oversteer tendancies the novelty has worn off. I know it would end in tears for me.

Well I only mentioned about the 182 as this always used to be the arguement against the V6 - basically it wasn't significantly quicker than the 182 (especially around a track). Any car on such a short wheelbase is going to be handful with RWD and mid mounted V6.

This was a Mk2 I was driving - they are a lot more civilised than the Mk1s - these were really a handful. Driving position is a personal thing, but it has a classic 'Italian' position - that is you need long arms and short legs!

As an event, it is second to none - cracking little car. Well worth a try if you ever get the chance. Top marks to Renault for building it though

I think I really want one. I really need to drive one, I'm just worried I'm going to be dissapointed by the performance.

Just a shame none of the dealers near me have one.

No matter how you look at it, 26K for a Clio is a s**t load of money for a s**t car. I had a 172. I couln't wait to get rid of it as the build quality is pathetic, the dealers are a bunch of lying w***ers, and how can you honestly drive the V6 fast after all the articles saying it's too skitish and on the limit handling will put you through the hedge? and when it rains it's worse.
You don't see many around though, so they are rare.
My local S**t, sorry Renault dealership (false of habit) got a new customer V6 in, then all the sales staff proceeded to take turns is red lining it up the road. I was even offered a go?????????????? When I said no, cos it was someones new car, they just shrugged their shoulders and laughted, as the next guy got in & roared off up the road. W***ers.
Renalut also charge the earth in servicing. You can service a BMW for less.

I believe that the Mk2 is supposed to have ironed out the snap oversteer tendencies has it not? I know that the Mk1 had a bad reputation for this.

I actually saw a blue Mk2 V6 on the road for the first time the other day......

What road presence that ****** has! Turns more heads that ANY Scoob/Evo etc etc.

Would I buy one?

No.

But if I won the lottery, then thats a different story.......I'd definitely have one in my garage!

It was a MK2 that I was in at the time. Starts out by understeering then wallop the **** end is out and your going round in a circle. Did it twice in one lap, the driver managed to catch the first but not the second.

Loved the sound, love the look, felt reasonably paced, BUT I would crash in it. I think its a car that im far too aggressive a driver for.

That doesn't sound good.
Sounds like a car I'm far too rubbish a driver for. Especially after being used to my very forgiving (and overly flattering) 4 wheel drive rice rocket.

Peter - I know where you're coming from. It's an irrational thing. I don't doubt any of the things that have been said on this thread, but there is just something about these cars. They have fantastic charisma and tremendous road presence. The engine note is just fab - I guess it's just a petrolhead thing. The majority of modern mainstream cars are very competant, but perhaps a little bland. It's just refreshing to see a manufacturer still prepared to make a car like this. It's far from from perfect, but I love it

Got any pics of your car?

And I don't doubt to some its dynamically slightly flawed.

But you know what? That is what makes it sooo special.

Sounds Good.

Better price than mine too.

Not silver tho is it? Or red, or some of the more iffy colours!

Go for it if its Blue or Black!

They remind me so much of the Metro 6R4 .....same kind of brutal styling.

Just two issues with the car in my mind.
1. The handling, as I previously explained (have you been on track with yours and experienced it?)
2. The weight. Its a lardy ****, with all that engine it really should be a quicker car shouldnt it? But with over 1400KG to lug around im not suprised it isnt.

Just feels like Renault have gone half way but not quite 100% cracked it to me.
