I like the clio as a drivers car, neat handling although you need to get used to it, it doesn't quite fit like a glove. Nice sounding engine, torquy - good point to point. BUT shocking fit and finish, constant niggly problems, shocking dealers, slightly odd driving position and the car is attracting some right chavy idiots as owners.
Out of the 2 i would have the ibiza but like all VAG stuff the suspension and possibly the brakes may need looking at to match the outright agility of the Renault, but of course the power can be taken beyond 300hp if you feel the need .
good luck
Andy

You'll get called a girl if you buy a renault clio. LOL
The cupra R wins it for me. Much better built, has good brakes, looks better, has the 1.8t which produces impressive results when chipped.
Overall a better car IMO.

Depends on what you're looking for in a car. For absolute b-road blasting fun, handling and dymanics, then the Clio. If you're after build quality and tunability, then it'll be the Cupra R. For me its would be the Clio everytime, the positives far out weigh the negatives.

I had a blast in my cousins Seat type R a few months ago. He's had it chipped to 270 bhp and it absolutely flew, a lot quicker than my STI V, and the standard Brembos on the Seat were a lot better than the AP four pots on my car too! Couldn't say about the handling as he didnt welly it on the corners.
But there's a lot to say for the satisfying fun of a chuckeable hot hatch like the clio, that's for sure!
Oh and you'll also be lucky to find a good type R for much less than 11k where as for 10K you'll pick up a nearly new 182 clio - yummy!
