Renaultsport Clio 182?
After parting with the P1 I am considering a brand spanking 182, I presume this will cost peanuts to run compared to the P1?
Are they any good?????????

I think maybe your asking that question in the wrong forum. Try clionet and you might get the reply your looking for.....
But if my two pennith worth is worth anything then I would say your damned right its a great value for money hot hatch. The whole worlds motoring press can't be wrong now can it?

Great car, every bit as fast across country as my CTR if not faster, i've driven a M8s one a fair bit and it's got much better steering feel than the Civic, more like a more powerfull Peugot 205 1.9 GTI.
Minus points. Driving position if terrible u feel like your on top of the seats and not in them, the steering wheels too big and lays too flat, and there's bugger all room to rest your foot next to the clutch, build quality on the ones i've seen seem to be ok all my M8s one has had done under warranty is a new exhaust (well not quite a whole exhaust they cut it in the middl and welded in the new section!!) LOL.
Still gotta be the best Hot hatch on the Market, just so long as the driving position and lack of room are not a issue.
Take a test drive i recon you'll be plesently suprised.

Mate has a Clio 172 with the renault sport ecu which makes it a 182 and I think Renault have seen more of it than he has I think he likes the handling of it but it's so unreliable It's 2 years old too so it's old enough to have ironed out the wrinkles without being too old and falling apart.
Shame because I heard great hype about them

The Renault engine is in a high state of tune & you simply don't get 10 extra horses from a chip. Or an exhaust or an air filter/induction for that matter.
The R Sport ecu moves the rev limiter higher & smoothes out the midrange but 0-3bhp extra that is all.
headwork and manifold work plus exhaust & remap, larger injectors, cams needed for significant gains

Just got a nice stealthy custom exhaust system and panel filter for my 172 and an ecu and headwork is planned for the summer to give me c.190bhp & a significant amount of extra midrange torque
If you get a reliable one & a decent dealer or specialist they are a cracking car to own and drive. In my experience, a well sorted one is better handling & more fun to drive at sensible(ish) speeds than an Impreza.

You kinda said what I wanted you to say.
There are people, some on here, that think the following.
Induction - 8bhp
ECU - 15bhp
Exhaust - 10 bhp
De-cat - 8 bhp
Polished head - 768979086786987824bhp
Classic, pub talk indeed.

i had a 172 from new for 3 years, until I part exchanged it for the Scoob, and i rate it as the best hot hatch on the market !!
I am also still a member of www.cliosport.net well worth a look on there to ask questions, as for it falling apart, I had all the common faults, centre section of exhaust rattling at 4000 revs, replaced twice, Cracked washer bottle and head light washer jets falling off. Aslo had a problem with the alarm. bur oither than that 3 faultless years of driving. There were others on Cliosport which had had a lot more problems, but overall most seemed to be ok.
Top fun to drive too, but a little livley in the wet
Mark.

Mine was the prototype car used to make the Janspeed exhaust system when it was new just over 2 years ago. It was on the rollers before and after the transplant and made a healthy 8bhp gain and personally I dont care if you believe me or not..........
They made about 4 tailpipe variants and I got to take my pick. I went for twin round pipes and god was it loud.

My Emerald ECu with TB's will give me 20bhp over stock on the Mi16. My new engine has been RR'd at 180bhp with flowed head and Piper 268 cams. Add that to the ECU/TB's, exhaust etc and I should make 190-200bhp.
Now many people will say pub talk when I mention that figure, but i'll know more when its fitted and RR'd.

If you do then fair bloody play!!!
Rolling road, get part fitted elsewhere, take back to other place and rolling road again.....
The garage fitting the "mod" are unlikely to wanna say "err, that'll be £500 for your 1.3bhp increase sir".
Mate of mine had a Clio 1.4, after an exhaust, induction, chip etc, it made loads of noise but wa slower imo.
He wouldn't have it though!!!!

LAD have a very bad reputation & have refused to bring their demonstrators along to rolling road days even when ClioSport members have offered to pay.
They do the 200bhp Clio Cup which IIRC has an open induction kit, exhaust and top secret internal stuff All done on a standard ecu though

More fun indeed... weren't you considering getting shot of your 172 for an Impreza recently Daz?
Must be boring driving at sensible speeds
(Yes, I am trolling him, as I know him, and have been in his Clio, and it's a very nice car )

Christ, imagine that! Having gold wheels on a Scooby. Be almost as bad as having a louder pipe put on a Clio
At least mine isn't green with a ridiculous rear spoiler
Back on topic - isn't there a special edition Clio out, as a way of saying Au Revoir to the model? With more bhp still. Think I spotted a review in AE some weeks back.

Engine is ready to go in, but cant buy a decent bloody torque wrench anywhere local to fit the clutch/gearbox.
Just waiting for the OK on my wiring diagram from Emerald, then I can sort the loom and TB's then start fitting everything into place. Just have to re-design my cooling and breather system as well though
It should all be done this year though at least

The missus still has a 172, thankfully hers isn't effected by the exhaust problem but mine was though.

I had a 172 Mk1 EXCLUSIVE for just over a year. Loved it and loved the performance Q factor. The look on peoples faces who took you on thinking it was a 1.2 was worth the money alone. I had no problems at all even thought the car was nearly 4 years old when i sold it. It was a little rattly inside though. Minus factor, its a clio and all your mates will think you are gay. Take them for a drive and they'll love it. They may even stop calling you gay but when you aren't around you'll still be gay;-)
