URGENT! Auto/Manual advice needed on 6 series

Haven't you driven them to see the difference. 'typically' it's always been bmw=manual, merc=auto. Maybe the 645 auto is ok, maybe not. Try bmw forums too.

BMW say that the auto boxes sort of adapt to how you drive, hold on to the gears longer and change real quick. So i guess people prefer to go for this new technology.
I'm old school and would chose a manual no matter what.

Definitely manual, although I'd like to try an SMG for comparison but I'm not convinced I'd feel like I was driving, even though it's still a "proper" box underneath. Wouldn't touch an old-school sludgebox, feels very detached from the car even if they have got buttons on the steering wheel. Defeats the point IMO in developing a car with a nimble chassis and sharp steering with nice feedback etc - feel "connected" - then disconnect yourself by throwing in a sludgebox .
Although I suppose if it's only for the image that's a different matter....
