205 Mi16 back on schedule now :)
Just done a deal on a fully rebuilt Mi16 engine, complete rebuild from top to bottom with Piper cams and gas flowed head.
RR'd at 180bhp on std ECU/Injection, so once its fitted with my Emerald ECU and Gixxer TB's I should hopefully see the magic 200bhp
Picking it up on Sunday, then its action stations to get it all fitted and running, cant wait now, been 10 months since I started the project
Costs have spiralled a bit now though, up to £4500 so far

Better off with a good reliable 8 Valve. I've had 10 good months driving mine while yours has been off the road
Do you reckon it will be finished before its officially recognised as a classic car??? PMSL

LOL Should be finished by July/August now, though theres still a huge amount to do including fabricating the new inlet manifold, creating the full engine wiring loom from scratch, radiator/cooling system, etc etc
Then its the heart stopping moment of firing her up for the first time with £2k's worth of new engine and ECU Think I will paint a reminder on the garage wall to put coolant and oil in!!

might be a silly question but.....are u still running the injectors on the tb???
.....if not how does the ecu work,as if they injectors have gone,u dont need air flow meter? or is it just for timing?

and make sure its out of gear when you turn the key of course.
In all seriousness do you think it will be driveable with that sort of power? I would imagine around 850-900KG giving around 235 per tonne. I hate to think what it will be like trying to get the power down?
What do you intend to do with it once its done? I hope its going to see a few tracks and not just be used for chugging around in?

John, still running injectors, but they are in the existing manifold near to the ports for better low down torque.
I then have the option of running another 4 injectors in the bike TB's, or just blanking off the injector holes. The Emerald can run 8 injectors and its full fuel/ignition control. Have a nice old Toshiba Tecra here to tune it.
Gary - will hopefully see a few tracks this year, and plenty of weekend outings as well. Getting the power down should be fine with the 1.9 box. When it was working, although only at 166bhp it rarely broke traction. We'll see though

Hi guys
there's a few mi16s popping up on ebay & the like & I'm tempted.
It would be a 3rd/trackday car & maybe the odd sprint.
Used to a bit of DIY spannering so looks like a laugh.
Would you buy a good one for £3k+ all prepared already or a std car for considerably less & fettle it yourself.
Also - will it be dropping to bits the whole time.
Cheers

Its all part of the fun owning French cars and seeing pieces fall off as you drive along Then there's the noises, banshee scream from the fan, squeaks, phantom ghost noises - all part of their character.
I have to say though, if this engine ends up buggered as well then i'm selling the lot and buying Jap. I have £6k sunk into my 2 Pugs now and if it goes belly up again i'm bailing.

The driving experience easily outweighs the niggles though.
I have a 205 and 405 Mi16 at the moment and they are fun.
205 GTi in general is spot on though, there are plenty of us on here with them.

I've got a Mi16 lump (with full loom, driveshafts, new clutch and gearbox attached) sat on the driveway just waiting to slot into my 8v 1.9!
Current engine is 190k smoky, rough starter, stiff clutch and saggy gearbox so I don't mind binning it!
Got the re-angled exhaust manifold, one half of the Rover V8 K&N filter kit, quick shift and linkages, and an uprated bottom mount (plus usual service items belts, water pump etc) so I'm ready to sort it in the next two weeks....
Can't bleedin' wait!
