Z4 or s2000
The wive is looking for a new car and has decided on one of the above, does anybody have any views or experience of them. She is not a speed freak so engine size is not important.

I had an s2000, I loved it.
My cousin has a Z4, he likes it a lot.
Neither are bad. What sort of driving is it for? Both do the nice top town drives out in the country etc., but if you want to stir the soul then the S2000, but it sounds like that's not that important to her given she's not a speed freak It'll come down to which she 'prefers'. Get her to test drive to two and see what she prefers.

Lovely Handling
Awesome Engine
Awesome Gearbox
Mental in VTEC mode
Honda Reliability
Bargin for what it is.
No low down torque, so you need to be in the rev range to make it go. This can get tiresome in London traffic - otherwise the car is a hoot to drive.

MR2 / MX5 / Tigra? - Whats the point in getting a S2000?
The boot wont be big enough, it wont be roomy enough, theres no glove box for all the hairbrushes and make up, it's too noisy, it's too long, mpg is pants, nasty boys want to race you in their max powered up Impreza cos they're better in twisties...
How about a nice StreetKA? Oo or a Astra convertible - they're nice

Doesn't sound like her non-enthusiastic driving would be suited to an S2000 but I would say that having owned one for 3 days I can confirm its by far and away the best car I've owned. Amazing in all regards and the lack of lowdown torque isn't a problem. Its fine for just pottering around town and if I want it to fly I can quickly drop 3 cogs in the flawless box and you're off. Its soooooooooooooooooo well made as well compared to my scooby/vts/pugs.

My wife has had both and prefers the Z4. The S2000 is a cracking car for pressing on but is let down by lack low end torque, which whilst you can change down a cog or two, is a pain in built up areas. The interior is more cramped than the Z4 and the dash is vulgar although surprisingly it feels much better put together than the Z4 which is let down by some of it's interior fittings.
I've no experience of the smaller engined models but if she's not going to press on too much then they should be capable enough - also bear in mind the whole issue of getting into each car because the ladies don't like their skirts ending up around their ears when entering cars and the S2000 is let down in this area. From a bloke's perspective, it's a bonus but believe it or not it's a significant buying issue with the fairer sex.
