Default RB5 to 350Z ( Nismo Kit )

I'm having an internal struggle with myself over whether or not to change cars.
I've had the Scoob for 3,1/2 years now and loved every second ( apart form the 9 points) I love the car but I just feel like I want a change.

It's a want rather than a need because there's nothing wrong with my RB5 I'm just getting itchy feet.

I can afford to go to the 350Z and I love the look of the Nismo kitted version.

I would appreciate opinions in both directions

Craig.

I owned scoobs for about 3 1/2 years - thats plenty long enough to be honest.

I've driven a Z and they show a lot of promise - I'd hope to own one some day. Best of all only 2 driven wheels and they are at the correct end of the car

You're in Scotland - OK all year for a 2wd sports car?

Well, we've had about 1 week of snow to cope with this year, so I think he could survive in a RWD car. Unless of course, he wants to take it into the Highlands in the dead of winter

I sat behind one a month or so ago in traffic. The exhaust note was fantastic

Craig,

I will give you my 2 cents worth as I have a certain perspective on this matter. I sold my MY99 STI Type-R last year year and splashed out on a kuro black Nissan 350Z with GT pack. I would definitely recommend one of these cars as they are brilliant in their own right.........however......if you are going from RB5 to 350Z you will have to expect a big drop in performance. It was the thing I noticed most and is the reason my car is here. The power delivery is very linear and you don't get the kick in the pants from a turbo, which lets face it is one of the reasons we love scoobies. I am certainly not slagging the 350Z off as it is an awesome car. I can get 32mpg on a motorway run, the exhaust note is amazing, the fuel tank is huge (80 litres). If you can handle a big drop in performance, then I would definitely recommend one.

Hope this gives you a better idea.

Craig.

STI Type-R > 350Z = drop in performance
RB5 (unmodded) > 350Z = change in performance? No turbo shove, but same figures?

I'm tempted by the 350Z as well as a 2nd car. Other than the grey imports prices seem to be holding up for second hand which means they are currently just outside my £20K budget. I reckon once the novelty of them has worn off a bit they may be better value for a used hand one. IMHO I think the Nismo kit looks a bit lairy and "Fast and the Furious-esque" (!). I prefer them just with the Rays wheels (and maybe a louder exhaust).

Car Pic

That's the car with the Nismo kit.

Agreed about the power but I don't think it would bother me since I'm getting a little older and more sensible ( 27 )

I love the car with that kit on it and IMHO don't agree with the fast and furious look. just a little more aggro than the standard car. Love it in RED too

As ozzy say's we arn't getting a lot of snow these days (Snowboard under my bed will testify to that) so it would be fine in the winter + my other half has a Yaris I could steal.

£30K is a huge pile of cash though.

Cheers guys

Really nice car BUT is it really worth the money compared to a scooby, I think I will have one when I reach 40, nearing retirement, you only live once follow your heart................

I too liked the look of the 350z and liked many things I had read, so I went and took one for a days test drive. I was initally dissapointed with the interior (and this was the top spec inside) I guess I was expecting something a little more Audi-like, it shouted cheap!
I was also shocked at the lack of boot space, mostly due to a spare wheel and a lot of polystyrene around it. Reversing out the forecourt was fun....not, you cannot see a damned thing. Anyway, you want to know how it drives........ everything I had read on it was correct. Very civilised car, nicely refined. Very nice handling indeed, stops very well too. Pretty fast, nice grunt. Sure that it would be a hoot once you really get know it.
So, I was on my merry way to spending 28k on a Nissan?

No, because I took the 05 STI for a drive too, which makes the 350z feel as though it is lacking in all the areas that I have mentioned. The Scoob has all the bases covered, even the interior is better.

This is just my opinion, so no-one get upset.

Talking

I have just ordered a 350z having owned a scoob ( classic with ppp) previously.

Cars I discounted, before buying the Z.

SLK - I'm a man
Boxster - expensive and if I'm on honest a little bit too much of a common sight where I live.
Scooby - image not what it used to be, ugly and not subtle - also a pretty common sight.

Didn't even look at;
TT - naff and everywhere
S2000 - old and a million revs before anything happens

What swung it for me -
- engine and exhaust note
- exclusivity - you don't see many and it turns heads like the scoob used to
- great drive

It's likely to be slower but it's not really in the same place as the scoob

Far, far better looking with that kit. The standard looks like a TT wannabe but that is very cool

rb5 black - do u just want to get out of the subaru scene? if not, why not go for the sti 9.

well refined, up to date technology, much more power then the 350Z etc

edward: did u consider the 230 mazda rx-8? i t/drove one of these and although not in the same level as the scoob it was stunning

If you've got £30k kicking around then why not go for an E46 M3 coupe? Plenty of those kicking about - lots of go, plenty of style and generally proper build quality I went from a tek3'd P1 to an E46 M3 cab and haven't looked back. Considered the 350Z but it just didn't have the "go" that I wanted

I did think about the mazda but I just plain don't like it in the flesh so it's a non starter.

It's just itme to get out of the Subaru scene I think ..... [flame suit] the image of the cars has hit rock bottom over the last couple of years IMHO and I want something a little more exclusive [/flame suit]

I can count on my one hand how many 350's I've seen and I've never seen a Nismo kitted version on the road (only in showrooms/shows)

The New shape scoobs don't appeal to me. Same as the RX8 it's a shape a just don't like. COmbine that with the fact I can insure,Run and service the 350Z on a fraction of what the RB5 is costing me ........ OMG I've made my mind up oh well no point in saving with these interest rates

Get a 350Z! Dont worry about performance, it will keep pace with a 2005 Sti. They just feel different. The looks and sound are worth a million $

How about a MkII Clio V6?
Awesome sound, 260Bhp, RWD and very very rare. Circa 20K for good low mileage examples.
