Default Exhaust noise dB for Track Days

I just bought a Pug 205 GTI with a 4 to 1 exhaust stainless steel manifold and and looking at booking some track days over the Summer.
The exhaust is noisey esp at certain revs 3800 to 4200 approx.
I notice that they give noise limits at track days , where can I get my car measured for noise,I do not want to waste money and be Black Flagged!!
Cheers Aggs

You can get relatively cheap hand held units that will give you a reasonably accurate "static" measurment but quite a few track days operate a "drive by" noise measurment which would be quite hard to do at home without the proper equipment. You can buy exhaust tips that simply bolt onto the tailpipe that will quieten your exhaust down. If you can get one for a good price might be worth taking one with you to a trackday.....run without it and see what happens...if the noise police get you just slip the extension on.

induction noise is a problem too- i had a magnex SS manifold and K&N on my old 1.9 Gti- it howled at roughly those revs, sounded great although i was a muppet back then and motorway cruising was er, tiresome

aggs,

When the SIDC had their track day at Bedford in February, a couple of weeks before they arranged some testing. Most passed on the day and those that didn't sorted out bungs, etc for their exhausts. So it might be an idea to contact the track before going up there.

However, on the day there was some 'issues' as it had a low cloud base and it seemed to affect the readings. Suffice to say some were black flagged (including someone 5 times ). As the day wore on the readings came in favour to the cars. Didn't really affect me as I'm running a standard 1.6 GTi Pug system .

Try Snetterton as their level is 104Db. I've heard quieter pneumatic drills

Where's a good place to get 'Bungs' ?

I know H&S do them, anyone else ?

Lastly, how many horses do you loose using a bung?

Cheers

Andy
