Default Metro 6R4-ugliest rally car ever??

Bit sad i know but i'm collecting those rally car models

anyway this weeks car is the MG Metro 6R4, now is it just me or is it one of the ugliest cars ever made?
definatley a case of function over form, not that it had much of a chance anyway, a flippin' Metro! were they mad!!!!

So any other suggestions for rally cars that have been seriously pounded with the ugly hammer

They built it at totally the wrong time, If you look back it started winning everything....... then then banned group B.

The 6R4 was a great design, for a Normally Aspirated car, the problem was everyone else was running turbo's by the time the 6R4 was ready, so they got stuffed. Will Gollops Bi-Turbo 6R4 showed what could have been had Austin Rover and Williams Grand Prix Engineering understood what they were up against.

Ugliest and worst performing groupB car by far, Citroen BX 4TC, what a pile of poo!

Hardly a great deal uglier than other beasts of that era...

The 6R4 was competitive; although it wouldnt have remained so as the NA engine was at the end of its development cycle rather than the beginning as its FI peers were.

I don't care if it's ugly or not, Will Gollops old 6R4 twin turbo is by far the fastest accelerating thing I've ever been in. Not just head pinned to the head rest, but crushed into the headrest.

How the hell the current owner drives it at 11/10ths up a hillclimb track I have no idea.

6R4's rock and sound absolutely glorious

We think the Lancia Delta S4 is pretty rough looking

hard as nails is what that is! The fastest GroupB car of the lot, turbocharged and supercharged.

A-ha! scoobychick, ive been looking for what that cars name was (Lancia S4).
Its butt ugly. The 6R4 and Turbo 2 are stunning in their own right.

Having owned a brand new untouched 6R4 I can safely say the noise would always disguise it's looks which I personally thought were great anyway.

Not very garden friendly with power down on lock though.

Tom Walkinshaw's actual involvment with the engine was superficial at best, most of the real development work was carried out by BL's own people, this car was probably the first incidence of the guy managing to wangle the credit for the work of others. The only things it shared with the venerable Rover V8 were the V angle and the bore spacing.

The Metro was never competitive for the job it was designed to do (compete in the World Rally Championship). In terms of horsepower it was by far the slowest "real" group B car, and its best WRC result was a third overall on its debut. However it did shine at national level and in the British Open series.

It started to come of age post Group B: the car was deemed a "safe" Group B car due to non-turbocharging and strong construction, and was accepted by the MSA for national rallies and rallycross. It has undergone continuous development since.

Worth noting too that the run-out batch of 6R4's (the 200 cars built for homologation) were sold for £16500 + VAT: less than a brand new Ford Granada Ghia at the time.
