Default 200sx

Ok newbie post, just sold the Rev3 MR2 Turbo for a Rav 4 for the wife (kid on the way), anyways I am left with her VW Polo (1.4 auto), which I am not really keen on driving. As I only drive 5000 odd miles a year is it worth changing?
Anyways I don't want to spend too much on a car £6500 max.
Have been looking at a 200SX (2000), with leather etc, has anyone had any experience of these, whats the reliability like, as I am used to Toyota reliability.
Other options would have been a 306 GTI-6, but reliability is a major concern.

PS any 200sx forums out there.

HELP.

I used to own a 1996 200SX touring - bought it in 2000 and kept the car for just over a year. No reliability issues at all.

In my opinion the 200SX is one of the most under rated cars on the road. With the money you're looking to spend it would be at or near the top of my short-list.

It's not the sort of car you want to drive quickly down a country road in the wet if you're half asleep. It can be very tail happy, but it is an extremely well balanced car and even a numpty driver could hold it on opposite lock all day long.

I've had both the 306 GTi-6 & Rallye, very enjoyable cars to drive...

For the money you're looking at you'd be getting one of the last examples, a 2000 X-Reg and with not a huge amount of miles on either, so I wouldn't be massively worried about reliability.

My Rallye was a '99 T-Reg (owned 2 years ago) with ~45k on when I got it and was fault free in the 9 months I owned it. The lad I sold it to still has it now and it's done over 70k miles, has been tuned to over 200bhp, done several trackdays and has been very reliable!

The GTi-6 I currently have is on the first ones, it's a '96 P-Reg on the old shape 306 and I picked it up cheap, but there's nothing really wrong with it apart from the clutch (worn) and it's been pretty good in the 5 months I've had it so far.

To contrast, I bought a brand new Clio Cup after the Rallye, had the 8 months and it was always in the dealer for faults & problems, the old Pug's are more reliable.

Have a look on www.306gti6.com for more help & info.

Mike

Could you please confirm the differences between the S14 cars and S15 cars, in terms of years of manufacturer?

s14 95 - 97

s14a 97 - 00

Both of these are both available as uk cars, wheras the s15 is only an import car available from 00 onwards.

yeah go for an S14a if you can, nicer headlights and generally better examples about. no wafty colour schemes either
I had one for about 2 1/2 years, used it as a drift car. Only thing to go on it was the turbo/manifold gasket. okay it cost me 400 quid to fix, but seeing as I absoloutly hammered the car every time I drove it, it werent too bad.

I would, but I think they are way out of my budget, also as its only available as an import. To be honest I've had enough being ripped off on my MR2 Turbo for insurance.

fair point about the import extra costs, the s14a costs are very reasonable

had my turbo gaskets go 6 months ago, 100 gaskets, 100 labour
