We will see just how imortal it is when an M5 uses it as a crash barrier.

Classic car prices now.

I had quick look in autotrader, only 4 1.9s within 40 miles of me, cheapest was £2300, ouch

**Thread hijack alert**

Just out of interest, i paid £1000 for my 1.9 GTI in summer (total bargain) and now i may need something even cheaper (oh, the joys of being a student), what do you reckon its worth..

110k F 1988, 110k runs nicely non PAS, fantastic cherry red bodywork with a T-cut, interior pretty average, mechanically sound, re-furbed wheels and a relatively recent brake overhaul. Also long t&t some history and a cd player as well.

Dont really want to sell it, hopefully my Dad will have it.

Any thoughts?

You will probably get your money back mate.

I had a look through a couple of car mags in WHsmiths at the weekend, like you do, and all the ones about track cars and budget racing had articles about tuning / preparing the 205gti. Not that im suprised

its steel grey not graphite mate, it won't be broken up cos its going to be used as a road rally car to replace my tired one that i've done loads of welsh events in. non sunroof 1.9's are quite hard to find especially in steel grey.

No, dont use a steel grey as a rally car

It needs to be kept std, they are rarer than Miami, Sorrento etc.

I'll give you £600 for it

Another Hijack I'm afraid

Dave do you have any advice. Just completed our third 12 car - we are looking to get a road rally car, because at some point I will put the scoob in the hedge if I dont. We will probably look to run a couple of full road rallies this year and then back into the 12 car season in September.

How should we go about getting a car - and what are the recommedations. 205 looks to be a good bet. Do we buy one that has rallied (with cage, guards etc) or a clean one that has not been thrashed so much and then convert (sounds like what you are doing).

Any friendly advice welcome

Dave

to be honest mate a 205 is probably the best all round night event car without spending stupid money, in the past i've rallied escort RS2000's and corolla AE86's but the price of those has gone totally stupid, if you can get a cheap 205 already prepared then you'll save money cos building them can work out expensive, remember though that road rally cars have a hard life so theres loads of tired ones about thats why i'm about to re-shell mine.

sorry mate its not for sale cos i've bought it to be a rally car and without a sunroof its ideal, i've already fitted a cage to it, yes they are quite rare but as a non sunroof model its not everyones ideal choice as a road car.
