Default Tyre wear:Ford Focus

I have just changed a rear tyre on my dads focus due to it being completly worn on the outside. The other rear tyre is perfectly fine and both were put on at the same time.
I have for some time now thought the wheel bearings were knackered, could a knackered wheel bearing cause this tyre wear???
If not what else could it be???
He has had the car for 4 years so no previous accident damage and changed the tyres a few times and nothing like this has happened...

The pre-facelift focus has been known to have wheel bearing failure early on its life. If you want to find out more have a look on http://www.ffoc.co.uk/forum/

rear wheel bearing failure on the focus was a known problem, both my rears needed replacing at 25k miles, problem apparently worse on cars fitted with drum brakes.

Not sure if it would cause tyre wear on the outside edge though.

more likely to be the rear tracking, as the focus has 4 wheel independant suspension so its possible just one of the rear wheels is out.
