Mondeo ST24 & Probe 24v

Mondeo ST24 & Probe 24v
Are these the same powerplant? I'm assuming so, even if they're in slightly different levels of tune. Can anyone explain why an ST24 costs at least twice the price of a comparably specced, same year and mileage Probe?
Is it all down to demand and the Mondeo seeming to be the more attractive?
Cheers

The probe is basically an American version of the Mazda MX6.
They had scary depreciation when new, hence why they are so cheap.
Good value of money if you can put up with the 90's Capri image although the interior is very american (plasticy)

Sorry for the thread highjack but...
What do you guys think of the 2.5 V6 MX-6? They seem to me to me to be quite good value for money? Anything to watch out for?
Cheers

With the Duratec 2.5 v6 in the ST24 its imperative that you change the water pump if you buy it. The internal propellar (impellar?) is plastic and disintegrates through time which results in the engine overheating and going pop. Its a simple and cheap fix to put on a new pump.

The mondeo V6 is a cracker ! this has been a great car to me. Insurance is -£300 for me (28) and the wife (23) which I think is good. mpg is around 28-32 and there is plenty of performance there too.

I had one from 96 to 99 (when I switched to scoob ), I only had two things go wrong.
1. the door trim retaining on the drivers side broke - but they got replaced under warranty / defect part
2. Heater motor resistor pack stopped working on speed 2 out of 4 - this cost 75 quid for the pack and an hour to fit - evidentally the dash needed to come off.
Other than that I did 38K miles and nothing else went wrong.
Oh other than the fact they eat front tyres.
I would definitely look for one with cruise control - that would be pre96 as the last year they dumped CC and put in electric seats (doh!)
