RS4 information
Hi,
Thinking about getting a 2001 RS4 - fully standard with 40k miles on the clock.
Had a test drive and was very impressed - it had a P1 esq acceleration that really put a grin on the old face !
Anyone here had one - and any views appreciated ?

Hi
I've had 2 RS4's (red and nogaro) with the second one running 440bhp with modded suspension, it was very fast with great build quality but it really depends on what you want from the car. If you want a fast cruiser with luggage space then go for the RS4 but we went from P1 to RS4 to TT to RS4 and now Type 25 which would destroy the RS4 but the interior is poor in comparision and is pretty noisy (based on a Spec C), saying all that though if I came across a low mileage Imola yellow RS4 with mods my wife would have to hold me back (the T25 would stay though).

My cousin has a chipped RS4, not been dyno'd but he says 420bhp. In my version 3 STI I do beat him from lower speeds, but from 80mph up he pulls away from me. We tried various combinations against each other then compared notes. He agrees that when we went from 20-100mph he couldn't quite keep up, when I was following him at that speed I caught up about 2 car lengths. But when we went from 80mph up, he was at 150mph as I got to about 135mph!
So, depends if you want, away from the lights, acceleration in mild comfort for £5,500 or in his case, more power, heavier car and much more luxury for £35,000. As he put it to me. "So, I can have one of these or one of those for every day of the week!"
Either way, they're both great cars to drive.

Got one yet Gastro
As Brendan said I've had one since my Scoob was lifted last year - the reason being they'd need a stronger crane to pinch this one
Its got 470LbFt of torque and an interior - which is nice. Still miss the Scoob for chuckability and flattery, but you could stand on this thing's roof and not fear falling through
Had a few laps in it at Castle Combe recently and it performed really well once I stopped pussyfooting about! Nicely surprised - but the old STi V still inspired more confidence due to less mass, better body control & ultimately more grip .
Does the job at the moment though and is fabulously practical glorious sounding machine. Cant think of another solid reliable 450bhp estate either - but I would selfishly prefer something more raw.
This of course means i need to augment this with a track car that's under £10k

What waiting list? My local dealership have taken zero orders for the new RS4, and as a group (3/4 dealerships) they've only ordered 2 new RS4s in total, and one of those is a demo car.

Well I'll be queing for the avant for 2006, not many 420bhp 4 wheel drive estates! Might have saved for it by then!
Though as there is no Vag ealership in the IOM that could be interesting....

I got wasted this morning by what I thought was an RS6, is there such a car? It was an estate audi, twin pipes, huge fat tyres.
I was coming off the M25 heading on to the M4 eastbound we both floored it and I kept up to about 110mph then he lost me around the sharp left hander and fookin flew off towards London.
First time *ever in my life* that a car has beaten me
I must get a 1000cc next time instead of my poxy 600cc

They're pretty quick, about 11.5 to 100mph with bag loads of torque across a wide rev-range. You need something pretty special to outdrag one, particularly as they're 4wd and automatic meaning even a numptie can make a quick getaway.

RS4 - i raced several at Croft while pioleting my stock Fabia vRS. They beat me obviously, but they are seriously quick, but refined. It opened my eyes as to how RS4 owners drive though
RS6 - Again seriously quick although not as quick as the RS4 i don't think. There was an RS6 @ Santa Pod last year struggling to get under 14 secs. I think he managed a 13.8 by the end of the day - but an M3 CAB [E36] was whipping it all day !?!?
Either way i would have any S or RS series given the choice.........
