Ones 4wd and the others rwd. ones a family saloon and one's a coupe. Handling will be different (do you prefer rewarding rwd or 'safe' 4wd?) and performance will be similar if it's the sx turbo model. depends which scoob and i'm sure some wallys will go on about 'what about and import/modded scoob but funnily enough you can tune and mod the nissans too!!

point taken, but I'm talking in terms of initial take off and cornering speed here.
For outright speed on the turns I have never been flung around faster than in a subaru, but I did go around them with a bigger grin on my face when i had my 200.

bought a 200SX S14 approx 2 years ago whilst waiting for the insurance to pay out for for my killed MY02.
Nissan is the better cruiser than the Scoob, its quiter, better set for fast motorway runs, slightly better on fuel, does not feel as planted as a Scoob in the wet ot through the bends. Performace wise Scoob quicker to 60 due to more traction but Nissan probaly better top end.
Both can be tuned very easily, Nissan can be made to drift / step out very easily which is great 99 % of the time but the 1 time it snaps it normaly ends up in disaster.
Have to agree with astraboy re cournering - brought a massive smile the first time it stepped out on a junction in the dry and very easy to get back in line. Bit more old school hairy chest the the scoob

Gentlemen, the point isn't which is "faster", because "fastness" (or speed, to be proper) can't be measured. It depends on whether the road in question favoures over or understeer, and what the road surface is like. I think that subaru is the wiser choice for off-road (or b-road) driving. Given track conditions though, I'd say that the RWD is both more interesting, and probably faster.

maybe you where just a better driver. my point is, who cares?
Suprised to see a fwd 185bhp car put down power more cleanly than a 193bhp rwd??
If you care so much about performance for the same money buy a rover 220 turbo tomcat or fiat coupe 20v turbo.

I really cant think of anything other than a 200SX that will give me the same sort of thrills. Dont get me wrong i'm not out to say a 200sx will waste a scoob i just want a decent car that has that same turbocharged mid range thrust of a scooby and similar performance and i know in the wet or a bumpy road a scoob will waste me.

subaru is the better all round car out of the ones people have mentioned , my friend has a moded 200sx and i have a moded scoob and to be honest they are about the same speed wise. I can get to 60 quicker because of the traction but he will take me in upper gears. At the end of the day its up to you which suits your daily driving more a pratical scooby or the 2 door coupe?.
Oh and i raced a few 20v turbo fiats at santa pod the other week and won very convincingly , but i do have traction .
Again just decide what your are after more in a performance car?

I had a 200sx few years ago as a company car...fast and comfy.
T
Ps- It made the news when it got smashed into a LandCrusier and closed Lower Early Way in Reading for 6 hours!.....still have a nice video from Meridian News of the fireman trying to work out what it used to be before becoming a load of twisted metal!
bit tail happy!

I have a MY00 200SX S14a. I changed my MY99 Sport for it. Haven't looked backed.
I've driven a MY02 bugeye turbo a fair bit and would say that it was quicker than my S14a pretty much everywhere. But that would be missing the point. I have far more fun in my 200SX as it's a proper challenging drivers car. The driver is very much involved; all of the time.
Agree with other comments about cruising ability. Leather seats, fairly good OE stereo and a tall gate make it very relaxing. Relatively speaking, it is fairly discrete. It's a good combination.
Only things I miss are the flat-four noise and better body control. Oh, and the rear seats.

I own a s13 and to be honest its such a handfull in the wet but great in the dry!! i'll say 200sx's are a car which would take you longer to get bored with as it is thrilling to drive and commands more concentration otherwise u'll end up backwards in a hedge or something.

yeh, I've got fond memories of my 200 sx (1990) - right up until I stuck it into the back of a bus - doh! As many have said - in the dry fantastic (my favourite was MK's round-abouts) - in the wet, WATCH OUT. For the money I think they're a cracking car - just don't get too cocky with it.

I've never owned a scooby but I do love my 200sx for a relatively small purchase and modding cost they go ridiculously quickly and they really arent that bad when you get used to them. When I first got it I thought it was scary and dangerous in the wet, that was with standard power. Now with over 320 bhp and I'm used to it, it feels fine but you have to accept there are limits to how much you can do in the wet.........
Makes me sweat when the wife takes it out in the wet though.......
And I am getting racelogic fitted though so I can take full advantage of its power in the wet
