Non-crap car for £1000ish???
selling my scoob and want a cheap car to see me through the next few months, not sure if i want a deisel or something a bit more fun, maybe a cheap RWD...? Any thoughts, either way i'll miss the scoob!

MX5 - ok, the cheapest is £3000 - but, run it for as long as you like - it won't go wrong AND you get MORE than all your money back! (you will be buying in February and selling in the barmy days of summer)

been looking at some of the older beemers, didnt no they were so cheap now. Second hand car prices really have fallen away.

3rd vote for 205gti, cheap as chips handles like a roller skate, just watch out for knackered suspension. Especially the rear beam, easily spotted by dropped rear end and negative camber on the rear wheels (shouldn't have any visible)

I've had a Merc 300e (231bhp) - £400 and a BMW 325i, E30 (170bhp) - £360.
Both smart and going strong. Some **** stole the merc, though!!

I've driven a few 205GTis and whilst they were good there were other better hot hatches that were overlloked the the Strada Abarth 130TC and the Charade GTti.
I now have 3 GTtis and they are great fun. So much so that I didn;t use my Scoob for two month in the summer.
This time of year you can pick them up cheap. They may be a little tatty round the edges but you could pick one up for nearly nothing. One on ebay for £100 at the moment and I know someone selling two for £1000. YOu'd need to merge them to make a good un but the shell of one of the cars looks superb.
If you ned to know anythign about these cars just ask.
Also if you mlike cars to sounds good and different like the Scoob then the 3 cylinder Daihatsu will be up your street as it really does sound like a Porsche 911.

I bought my black GTI 1.9 last year for £850 and after a service it was fine for another 10,000 miles and felt pretty good on the road.
'Cos I enjoyed it so much I wanted to feel how they must have felt box-fresh...
I have kept it completely standard on the exterior.. I rebuilt the rear suspension, fitted Bilstein shocks/springs all round, 4 new Toyo T1s, cleaned and refurbed the intake system, replaced pads and disks and brake pipes, replaced pretty much all the no-durable parts including cam belt and gearshift linkage. A few other odds and ends too.
I'm sure I've spent well under a grand on the refurb - so for 1600 squid I've got a borderline classic and great fast road car!
Done three London - Kendal and a couple of London - Penzance blasts and she's never let me down. 5.30am across Dartmoor on a gorgeous summer morning was equal to ANY journey I had my old '99 Impreza!
(I won't mention the battery dying last night - something I've been meaning to change )

Whereas if you bought a historied Corolla GTI, you wouldn't likely have to spend anything on it.....had 4 in a row when I worked at the main dealer, couldn't fault 'em, couldn't break 'em either.

Another vote for the s13 200sx. Miles better than most hot hatches. Quicker, more tunable and a proper car etc. Get a T28 and some decent shocks and kick some booty.Dirt cheap to!

ever thought about a cavalier turbo? 2 litre 6 speed, i've had 2 of these cars and their awesome, good performance and excellent mpg, theres some very cheap ones about at the moment.

Nah - I said it was perfectly usable when I bought it - my secondary point was I got a little carried away!
No car for a grand is going to be 'as new'!
