Question MAF sensor

Hi All

Can anyone tell me the symptoms of a faulty MAF sensor? It is not on a scoob but I would imagine that they would be similiar irrespective of car.

Also is it possible that the MAF sensor could be faulty despite the element appearing to be intact?

Thanks

Brett

Hesitant and poor acceleration. Also, the car can appear to have big flat spots in the acceleration, where it seems to loose a lot of it's power.

Is it for a Volkswagen / Audi / Seat / Skoda by any chance? The turbodiesels have had BIG problems with MAF failure -- so much so that VAG dealers are doing a special discount rate on out-of-warranty jobs (about £70) compared to a "list price" of £200+.

The MAF failure does not always show on VAG diagnostics either.

As above, symptoms are erratic acceleration, flat spots, poor fuel consumption, no power at higher rpm etc.

Thanks brick boy...can you always tell that the MAF has gone simply by looking at the element?

Default typical symptom...

...(especially if you've just had an ECU reset) is very bad hunting at idle.
