Talking Pug 106 GTI

Got the use of my younger brothers one a few weeks ago. Great wee cars - well balanced performance in terms of speed, handling, braking etc. The understeer/ lift off oversteer is so controllable as well. Saw a Top Gear type program over the holidays and it is no wonder they chose this wee car as the second best handling car - second to a Ferrari if I remember correctly. Wolf in sheeps clothing as well!

Same story with my Saxo VTS. The only problem I find with it is that it's a bit of a drag on a long motorway journey.

I love the 106 GTI's. I had a VTS after looking at a few 106's (as it was cheaper!) and loved it for the handling and sprightly performance as I think they're virtually the same cars underneath. Only problem was the crappy citroen finish on the body work - ie the plastic lower half of the doors and rear arch. Looked all rippled compared to the metal bodywork. Superb off the line, my mate and I used to go down the pod with my VTS and 5 Turbo. Had numerous drags and my best was 16.00 and his best was 15.99. Both totally standard apart from induction filters and exhausts. None of this rev to 5000 and drop the clutch malarky that I would have to do now if I went down the pod again!

Used to own one of these a couple of years ago - absolute boon to drive. Get some throttles bodies fitted and they fly! Crap build + wouldn't want to crash one mind

I used to own one a few years ago, so I know how quick they go, recently I sold my scoob and bought a Audi TT 225 and thought id give my mates pug 106 gti a quick race down a big straight dual carrigeway all the way to a 100mph and i couldnt get past him at all but after that I started to edge past him and slowly got in front, it shows what a light car with 120bhp can do to a heavy car with nearly double its bhp.

Still miss me old Blaze yellow pug 106 gti.

they are also a lot quicker than the cooper s mini - both in acceleration and handling.

just make sure you scrap those rubbish pirrelli p6000 tyres (they might as well be made of lego!) they came with and replace with yokohama a539's and you just cant beat it round the bends.

Had a Citroen AX GTi. The AX donated the chassis for the 106. It had the perfect setup for the Nordschleife and awesome brakes. It only had 795 Kg to stop, mind. And, yes, I surprised some bigger cars

I used to have one of these a few years back, loved the thing...

The Mrs has got one now though, so I regularly borrow that for a play!
