Default Pug 205 & MI16 Engine - Questions

Hi,

A friend has recently completed a conversion of a MI16 engine into an old Pug 205 1.6GTI Shell. The car is all up and running and bar upgraded calipers, pads and exhaust the 205 is stock....

My questions are:

1] How much should i expect to pay for it? He has no clue and neither do i.

2] What sort of performance figures am i looing at (1/4 mile, 0-62 etc etc). He reckons its quick - wheel spins in 1st and 2nd at the drop of a hat.

3] Is it worth the purchase for a bit of Santa Pod action, fast road fun and maybe a bit of track day? I've got a Leon Cupra R coming in March so this just to tide me over until it does.....

I was gonna offer him £2000 - is this close?

Cheers
Chump

as taff says - check the other forum. I'd say 2k is too high, but depends on the donor car. 1500 tops more like IMHO. should do 60 in 6.5 or less

Id say itll be damned fast; I had a BX 16v new, which uses the sames engine and transmission and it was absolutely mental above 4.500 revs.

2k is probably too much. It really depends on how the conversion has been done, there are many ways of performing a conversion, some perfect some not so good. Is it an alloy 1or steel block ? is he using 16v engine motronic management or re-using the 1.6 jetronic

I'd pop over to 205gtidrivers, as you this could be worth buying, then again it may not..just depeneds on how its been done.

cheers

It really depends on the spec.

When I add up everything I've spent on mine it scares the sh it out of me- the engine install alone cost me £1200, although most of that was because some local donuts 'had a go' at fitting it first and took the dash, loom etc etc etc out.

I started again and its now installed with the proper electrics (16v) and loom.

Have just done the cams and it will happily spin the wheels in third on road tyres. As far as Santa Pod is concerned they're a pig to get off the line clean, as the wheelspin can be massive.
