OK, so it's been done to death...
...but I'm having a crisis. The old MY93 WRX is getting a little tired and I have a choice:
Keep it and spend some wedge on tarting it up (uprated suspension, some tuning work etc.) or get another car.
This is the real problem. What can I buy that is practical (baby due in January, so needs to be 4 seater with boot big enough to fit a pram), fast (well as fast as a 290bhp classic WRX or faster), great handling, fun to drive and probably the most important bit it should turn heads and be "different". And to cap it all, it'd be nice if it was a UK model and a standard car as I'm sick of going through the rigmarole every year of finding an insurer. Budget is up to £15k (but definately not over!)
Your suggestions please!

15k get you a 1999/2000 Audi S4 Avant
15k also gets you a 2001 BMW 330i Touring
Both standard cars, quick - probs not quicker than a 290bhp classic though
or 15k would get you a 1995 Audi RS2 - that would be quicker.

Maserati - nice suggestion but I'm not sure I'd like to rely on it to get me to work and back every day
S4 Avant - That's definately going to be on the list, I think
BMW 330i Touring - I'm not sure I could overcome my anti-BMW tendancies enough to actually own one
RS2 - Another good choice, although would it survive 12,000 miles a year?
Skyline - GT-R is on my wish list, but the hassle of insuring it is putting me off, especially as I WILL modify it!
Accord Type-R - I'm not totally averse to the idea, but I don't like to thrash, I'd prefer something a bit more "long-legged"
Alfa 166 V6 - Lovely car, appalling residuals, I'd pay £2000 for one, but not £15000!
S60 T5 - hadn't thought of one of those, but I really like the shape.
Another car that appeared on my list today was Jag S Type V8. Not *that* fast but a nice cruiser.
Keep 'em coming!

The Audi won't turn heads which is what you said you wanted ?
On saying that, I'd still have one above any BMW you care to mention for similar money. The quattro 4wd on the A4/S4 is still the best around I think (I had 2 A4's)- mega grip, some understeer but brilliant at deploying the power.

Yes they did a C43 AMG estate, a 70k miler went for £10,300 on Ebay 2 days ago.
From experience, the WRX 4 door will struggle to swallow all the kit you need to take baby to the inlaws for a weekend.
£15k will get you a UK bugeye wagon and change for mods, or a MY00 UK wagon and change for monster mods

If you fancy an R32 GT-R they can be landed for about under £7k for a nice one; makes you think doesnt it?
Also, a six cylinder Nissan RB25DET / RB26DET can cope with 12,000 miles per annum a lot more easily than a FI Subaru EJ20 can.....

The only thing stopping me getting a GT-R is the insurance hassle and constant feature creep (you know: if I upgrade the ECU I can have 5 million horsepower, then the turbos are restrictive, then bigger injectors are needed, bigger i/c etc etc)
Maybe I should just resign myself to never being happy with my car?

Im tempted by an ECR GTS-T TypeM which has a RB25DET; I can buy Grade 3.5's with automatic transmission for less than £2,500 landed..... but then; a manual will only cost £3,500 landed; which isnt that far away from an early BNR32 GT-R.....
