Absolutely true.
It needs to be man enough to pull a set of harrow chains, a roller and a topper (not at the same time of course ). So I'm going to need (I've been told) something with a 3 point linkeage, a PTO and about 30hp.
I've been following eBay for a while now and these things seem to go for serious money. I don't really want to spend more than £600 for the tractor so what do we go for?
Any idea on where to look and what to go for? I need something reliable that's not going to need pampering. I'm not worried about the tinwork too much as long as it's not's really bad.
Thanks all.
Cheers

Not sure - Dad got an MF35 15 years ago for about that money, it's the tractor equivalent of the Morris Minor, ultra-basic, effectively engineered, and keeps plodding on for ever.
Unfortunately it seems also that the equivalence extends to collectability, so the prices have rocketed and there are now people who come round nicking them to sell to collectors who restore them and exhibit them at shows. He has to keep his 40-yr-old workhorse wreck under lock and key. Nowt so queer as folk

Thanks mate - I'll take a squint.
Brendan - A property developer mate of mine has loads of toys including a restored MF35 that he was recently offered £3,500 for
I have to admit to buying Tractor & Machinery this week

Oh great. 600 on the "cheap" tractor, now we need to spend two grand on the alarm system.... I don't believe this...

Don't know if you caught the Grand Final of Scrapheap Challenge but in the intro to the show they showed some of these things and it looked like it was powered by 10 fooking huge engines arranged in 2 banks of five - bloody amazing.
Anyway, to answer your origianl question, probably not

Oh dear.
Brits chewing the fat about tractors is one thing, Americans doing the same is unspeakable.
Reminds me of a Texan gobbing off in a pub in Galway. He says to this Irish farmer "Do you know, it takes me half a day to drive from one end of my farm to the other?" The Irish chap says "Bejaysus - I used to have a tractor like that as well"

David Brown 880 or 990, 45-55 horsepower, cheap, good on diesel and very reliable.
To be honest there are loads to choose from at that level, but i know David Browns well!
There's my sensible answer
