As title really, what "dream" car would you buy for 2k souly for track days. I'll anticipate a delay while you lock yourselfs in the bog with an autotrader.

I'd personally go for something rear wheel drive like a BMW 325i or Capri 2.8i or what I have at the moment a Carlton 3000 gsi 24 or even a 200sx. Most other things are getting pricey now An old sierra 2.9 XR4x4 looks like fun on track from what I've seen as are the old (J/K plate) Legacys

Depends what your wanting to do really ........ Do you wanna be competitive and be up with the high flyers? In which case the 200sx or well sorted 205gti will do the trick. Do you wanna get overtaken alot but have a smile on your face at every corner, capri.

i do love hot hatches but i've never driven a rear wheel drive so a capri might be nice. Has anyone driven a nissan pulsar GTi-R (not a dirty chavmobile tho!)?

It really is important to consider the costs of keeping the thing going ....... I use both my 205 and my scoob on the track. The scoob will kill a set of tyres in 2 weekend £800 whereas the pug gets probably 4 weekends killing 2 tyres £80.
The same can be said on pads. £100 a weekend in the scoob, £40 for 4 weekends in the pug.

yeah this is the reason my dad wont take his leon cupra r on a track, so i want to try and convince him and my brother to buy a track car. It was brought up after we did one of those experience days with a scooby and an evo but has long been forgotten i think.

if i covince them it wil be for me, my brother and my dad. we need something to do together once in a while and we are all obsessed with cars so track days are an obvious sloution. Just the funding which will be a problem as i am a student so i have no money and my dad has no money becasue he is paying for my degree so there in lies the problem.
Essentially the thread is just for fun becasue it will probably never happen.

they're still too heavy though - you need to ideally start with a car that weighs <1000kg and then start stripping out. Heavy cars don't make good track cars. 205gti, citroen volcane or an ex "race car" like a fully prepped hothatch/tomcat etc would be ideal imo.
If you can get sub 600kg, you're really talking

Ok, probably gonna get strange looks for this - but I'd go for an Alfa 75 3.0v6.
Pros:
Front engine RWD with good weight distribution (51/49 if I remember correctly).
3.0 V6 with 197bhp 'out of the box', just imagine the noise with a decent air filter and exhaust.
Cons:
Er, little odd looking
Dry weight of 1285kg, so a bit heavy until you empty it of all the junk like seats etc.
Bit different to the norm tho
