Default Oil for vtec

Hope someone can help me with this, what type and brand of oil do Honda dealerships normally use for vtec engines during a service?

Thanks.

In my experience it varies greatly between one dealer and another, although I have heard Shell helix semi-synth banded about on more than one occasion. For the Teg I use semi-synth 10W40 magnatec as do alot of the guys on the Honda boards.

I've heard alot of people saying that synth like mobil1 is too thin for VTEC engines.

Thumbs up

I used to use Mobil FS for 4 years, no issues, runs better IMHO aswell. I used to change my oil every 3000miles, and check weekly.

Well, our local Honda dealer use semi synth 10w-40 for a Honda NSX

(I presume when you said vtec you meant NSX - or was it me just name dropping again? )

The Honda dealers normally use semi-synth for the Civic Type-R as advised to them by Honda. But the real reason I believe is that negligent drivers who rev the nuts off the car without bothering to lift the bonnet once in a while can end up with a seriously low oil level if using fully synthetic - result being more warranty problems for Honda.

I use fully synthetic as well with no problems. Far better for the engine IMO.
