Hi Mike,

I've got one! Actually, it's my 3rd! They're fantastic. You'll have great fun in it, and still enjoy sensible miles per gallon. I drove mine in the snow last year with no probs. You just need to keep it moving and turn the traction control off. The problem arises when you come up behind some **** in a Subaru (other cars are available ) who doesn't know how to drive and just stops on a slope for no reason whatsoever! LOL

Mine is standard, but still has 204bhp and loads of torque, 6spd box, lots of toys etc.

If you have any questions, just ask!

Matt

Hi Matt,

Glad it seems to be a great choice of car, going to pick here up on Friday

As for snow I dont have a problem with that as my nissan with 300 bhp is a bit tricky aswell

Nice wheels on yours, might get some M3 ones myself

Cheers,

Mike

You could say the same for most cars fitted with tyres for the UK market.

Blinding motors.

I'll guarantee that if there is a very cold snap this winter, they'll be lots of subaru owners on here moaning about there ABS cutting too early etc etc.

Its the same for all cars in the UK, if you choose to drive on summer tyres during the winter, you are not going to get very far, or you'll have a very tricky journey.

Mike,

Those alloys are the standard 18 inch "MV2" rims that come with 2004 cars. They're not M3 rims, as M3 rims do not fit on normal 3 series'. You can get copies of M3 rims that may fit, but if yours is a sport, the standard MV1's on your car wil be miles better than any M3 copy.

As Reffo has said, summer wheels and tyres are poor regardless of make of car. I'm looking for some winter wheels and tyres so that I can have a narrower footprint in case of snow. It'll also keep my mint 18's looking mint, and not dinged by "hidden" kerbs etc.

Default Winter tyres.

I use Continental ContiWinterContact TS 790 winter tyres and there is no comparison to normal tyres in cold weather. Below 5 degrees they become much better and in snow and ice you can drive more or less normally (slower but normally).

The only problem is that with 4 wheel drive it seems that you can accelerate better than you can stop.

If you have loads of cash then get some and have a good laugh when it snows whilst driving past everyone

In warm dry weather they are crap like driving on lots of pencil rubbers.

True, I just remember smiling as my dad tried to stop the bloody thing slithering around. The 330d runs wide tyres and just sits on the surface of snow and goes nowhere!

Mike,

The tyre sizes are 225/40/18 at the front and 255/35/18 on the back!

had the car chipped yesterday after just 1 day of ownership, and now it feels like the whole car is alot more balanced on braking, corning and power delivery

the biggest improvement is in the mid range, now the bonnet raises and back squates down which is nice

got a price off a local motor factor for alloys and tyres of 700 which I didnt think sounded to bad, might wait and pick a set of originals up though

the only other mod to fit angel eyes. I'm not going to have the led type ones as they arent worth putting on.
will have to find where they sell the bright white types and will probably upgarde to zenon bulbs while I'm there

Mike,

Glad you're enjoying it! That £700 price sounds reasonable, but will probably be on crap tyres and questionable alloy quality. The MV2's retail at about £360 each and then you need about £150 per corner on a tyre. So all in, about £2k for a set. Try e-bay, but make sure that they're original and not copies. Anyone selling a set of 4 that are the same size is invariably selling replicas.

Xenons are also very expensive and angel eyes are not available as a factory option on E46's. You're probably better off sticking to your standard lights.

My old man has one, imported from Germany for mucho savings

I really didn't like BMW's until I had a go in this. Bit of a torque monster and I think it would keep up with my UK scoob on the move, and maybe the STi above 70...

Getting used to the car now, had 2 full tank fulls of fuel and its done over 500 with each. Just ordered some mud flaps as bmw do not make them for cars with the m tec kit, and going to get the ccfl angel eyes

If I was to upgrade to blue tooth what do I need to get it working? found a working shark fin with cable and the m tec wheel has the buttons, but what else do I need, some kind of electronics box maybe........

Mike,

The standard mudflaps fit onto the M-tech bodykit. My two previous 330d Sports had flaps! My current one doesn't. With bluetooth, the retro-fit cost is prohibitive. I'd imagine that you need a "unit" of some sort to allow the 'phone to talk to the car. I know that mine has a code that needs to be put into the satnav/tv unit. This then pairs my phone to the car. I'd suspect that each installation of bluetooth into a BMW has a different code.

You may be better of with one of those headsets, although you should fit the sharkfin anyway!

Nice motor that mate!!

Mines the same as matts but with the lowly 2.0ld in it, my 320d sport has flaps also, go straight on and are a must i think, keep the crap off and m,ake look even more squat on the road from behind.

I wish BMW would tell me the right stuff, anyhow I have a set just arrived so will fit on later today after I've washed it. They get absolutly filthy at the on the rear of the car you cant even rear the number plate

Will probably get a shark fin for the hell of it

Just wating for snow now and going sledging in the car with the dsc off
it cant be any worse than the nissan though......
