Goodbye mondeo.... hello peugeot 306!
Ah after 40k miles of happy, fault free (ish except wear and tear items like bearings) ive passed on my mondeo to a good home 
and in her place ive picked up a lovely low mileage 306 to play with (its a 2ltr 8v).
I hope that this motor will be as reliable (fingers crossed) as my mondeo was, but shes in for a service etc tomorrow so we shall see (and sort out one or two niggles also).
As for the mondeo, if you want a nice reliable motor, id go for one of these again, its just that i wanted a change and so.......
