Post Evo Mr400

Haven't been on this site for a couple of days so sorry if this has been posted already!

In this months issue of CAR mag they have a first drive in the new Evo VIII MR 400.

Same base engine, but stripped down and new crank, pistons etc added, end result being 400 bhp and a quicker 0-60 time than a Pangani Zonda

Looks like an awesome bit of kit, but over £40K for an evo is a bit out of my credit cards reach at the moment

EVO MR 400 Article

The guantlet has well and truely been laid down, IM/Prodrive time to pull the finger out and give us a real ltd edition and not just a different paint job

Yeah but they are only making a few less than a 100 i think so don't think you will be lucky enough to see them about, or have time to save up for one. Still nice car, would prefer to have the Zonda though.

Do you have 40K available to spend on a Jap car?

Would you be able to justify to yourself spending 40K on a Jap car?

I couldn't justify 40K on a Jap car, something more luxurious maybe, but definately not a Mits or a Sub.

Look at the 22B, what a fantastic car and still one of the best looking Subarus. So spending £40k+ on a car that will out accelerate a zonda and go onto 175mph is not a problem. Forget your M3s, RS6s etc this car will destroy them. I think for the money you are getting a true Ltd edition that will also hold its value very well, but that's not what you are concerned with when you are looking at something like this.

Yep, if you are buying it for plaything / track etc then of course the Noble, but if want to get the kids and the weeks shopping home (quickly ) then the choice becomes a bit more interesting!

Very nice, but comparing 0-60 makes little sense at this level, 100-200kph would be more relevant.

THat's true John, I guess there's not that many times when you are going to go for traffic light grand prix with launch control etc but it is a nice to have.

do you not all think that these "trick" driving aids take all the fun out of the car. quoting clarkson on his last DVD, "coming up to a hairpin bend at 100mph, why not, turn in and the car works everything out". sounds like a good way to leaving yourself dead or cripled. Active Yaw Control, launch control, anti lag, pah.........

Now, I'd imagine you'd look a right ***** sitting with the car reving its head off at the lights.

There's a guy in work here, who has all this stuff on his car, not a subaru though. He usually come of with stuff like "My car would be quicker away from the lights than yours"
I usually reply with nice plain and simple statement like "Do I look like I even give a ****, now get the **** back to work"

It looks like the UK importer is able to have quite a lot of free reign on what to do to the cars with aftermarket parts from HKS et al.

I suppose the equivalent would be Prodrive doing the WR1 but in far more extreme spec. But it is not exactly common and reliable getting 400 BHP out of a 2.0 bottom end is it LOL.

The best chance of Subaru pulling off a competitor would be a proper built 2.5 with the strength and rev capacity of the best 2.0s I would think? But the 4G63 has been around for ages and proven at high power. Subaru on the other hand, erm... are just getting 320 BHP sorted out with a warranty LOL.

Do the Mitsubshi guys sell extended warranties also?

I know I was offered extended warranties on my MR FQ320, but I'm not sure about the 400

I'll agree the bar has been raised and maybe its time Subaru used the 2.5 as its base. Its not just the Mitsubishi, with the new range of hot hatches pushing 220-260 bhp (new astra,S3 etc) its time for a step up.

Yes, so why is it that the Yanks get a 2.5 STi turbo and we are left with the 2.0 litre variant? Perhaps the brits are being palmed off with the old stock of 2.0 litre engines Subaru have left

2.5 UK STi for £25K would make sense and be alot less money than a T25

We could always ditch the chocolate Subaru engine and transplant the 4G63 Mitsi motor and drive train into the Subaru Nope, definitely makes more sense to just buy an EVO

I think this Impreza vs. EVO race between the two companies is getting out of hand, next it will be a 550bhp car that will hit 60 in under three seconds!

Sounds like good fun to me.

Still i've just been told i can't by one. Damn.

Still i don't like the interior and the long term reliability could be any issue at 200bhp per ton.

The service bills could be a bit steep too.

you look closly enough at the dashboard pics you'll see the engine and abs warning lights are on - bloody mitsi's!

the reason the yanks get the 2.5 litlre block is because the petrol out there is so wimpy its the only way to bring the car back to normal sensible amounts of power. I think (i stand to be corrected here) that the normal unleaded there is.....wait for it.... 87 RON LOL!!

not sure what super is, maybe a couple more?

Having driven out there i can confirm it is miserable state of affairs driving with $hite 'gas' i think the 2.5 litre is a start of some kind of compensation

If they only produce 100 Mr400's i think they will sell them without too many problems. Collectors and celebreties will snap them up.
But if they go on general release, how many people would want to outlay 40k plus
The 22b is a wonderful car, but its also very exclusive.

If i was in the market for a 40k plaything, i would have to look for a secondhand 911.

I cant imagine that their would be many people who would buy a 40k scooby or mitsi as their everyday shoping car

US Ron ratings are not the same as the UK - I think 87RON US is almost 95UK

If IM/Prodrive did this, everyone would be w4nking over their keyboards

The reason the yanks have a 2.5 is because of their stricter emission laws. A highly tuned 2.0 litre is dirtier than a bigger 2.5 litre lump that isn't running huge boost etc.

it has been on its way for a while now.

Am in the home stretch now, and I promise 22B characteristics will still be in tact, but possibly amplified somewhat!

Still make more sense for Subaru to standardise, so thats sorted then...we get the 2.5 STi as well Of Course Re-Mapped for UK Optimax and silly boost as well
