I'd have thought the positives would be:
Performance
Looks (my favourite 911)
Reliability
Resale
Downsides:
Cost (purchase and maintain)
Boyracer magnet? - Every t!t in a nova/saxo (or scoob!?) trying to race you..
Go for it I say!!

I have a 96TT with the factory upgrade engine (430BHP). Absolutely stunning car in every sense (Except fuel economy).
The acceleration is crushing in every gear of the 6 available. (0-100mph in less than 8-1/2 secs, 125mph in another 5 secs. Standing mile in under 30 secs.
Starts first time, sits in traffic with no issues, handles like a dream and brakes that are brilliant time after time.
It is my everyday car and I love it.

I have a 993 turbo - had for 18 months now.Had a evo 7 before that.
The porker is a superb car - no doubt.408 BHP,0-100 mph in 8.8secs,188mph - says it all really. My car is now 9 years old,has done 60k miles - have had it 18 months and only lost about £5K in depreciation - lost 12K in 18 months with the evo.
Build quality is faultless, engine sounds fantastic, brakes are superb. The engine has so much torque - and is lag free - a lot of people are surprised its turbo charged - the engine is just so progressive.
Downsides: running costs - dont expect more than 19mpg and thats taking it easy.Servicing is big money - I needed 1 year service, new brakes pads/discs and 4 new tyres - bill came to over £3000.
Insurance is actually very reasonable - I pay £1100 fully comp - am 28yrs old with 7 years no claims.
Other downside is it attracts a lot of negative attention - much more than the evo.Every one wants to drive 6 feet off your bumper and everyone wants to race, well try to anyway.

The evo was a superb car - but got fed up of the ridiculously hard ride and having to fill up every 150miles.The evo felt faster but in fact was nowhere near as quick as the porker, which has loads more torque and the engine is lag free.
The porsche is also a much rarer car - I have never seen another 993 turbo on the road for over 4 years. And its special to drive - I dont flog it and look after it very well, with the evo I just thrashed it from day one,its just that sort of car.
With a nipper mind there isnt much room in the back at all and the boot is tiny.
As I said before residuals on these are rock hard,Ive only lost £5K in 18 months on depreciation.
I had a look at a 996 at the time, but wasnt that impressed - too refined.
If you have 40K to spend - look for a 993 turbo - you wont be disappointed, its a car you never tire of- promise.
