Not to mention constantly fiddling with the ignition advance, mixture etc whilst on the move. (wish I could do that with the scoob)

The handbrake is on the outside of the car and the gear stick is on the inside but on the right.
Oh and the brakes weren't good....

Chris,
Trust me, with practice you won't even think about the pedals, My dad had a 1929 Morris Minor, with 3spd crash box, and central throttle, and brakes only if it feels like it, i've been driving it for years, it doesn't even register when I get in it now, just feels normal.
Ron.

I got the hang of it after a couple of miles. It was the drum brakes that took the most getting use to though.
The other thing i noticed was the lack of common courtesy shown by other motorists who seemed to think it ok to pull out in front of you!

Tell me about it, people have no idea how scary it is driving an older car, they have abs, you're lucky if the brakes work, they have indicators (except bmw's) you have hand signals, whicj no-one understand these days, they have acceleration, you need a downhill road, they pull in after overtaking, and then slam on the anchors, and they have no concept of how vague the steering can be in an old car either, I need about 8ft wide, for a 4ft 4in wide car!!!!!
Enjoy, my old man used to say, 'Half the speed, twice the fun'
And having driven it a lot since he passed away, I'm starting to agree with him!!! shame he can't see me grin really.......
