Erratic idle, revving by itself - omega 2.5 v6
Have posted on MIGweb but thought I'd try here as the problem may be a common car problem.
When warm and in traffic the idle on my my95 omega 2.5v6 ecotec is erratic. seems to keep changing between 600rpm to 900rpm rather than staying still.
In addition, and possibly related, is that the car sometimes wants to rev by itself. I would lift off, take the car out of gear, and it would rev (slowly-ish) up to over 4000rpm. If I put it in gear and braked, once down to 1000rpm it would be fine although can't do this all the time in traffic. Is it a sticking throttle cable or more likely electrically related?
Anyone any ideas/checks I can do/things to reset etc.??

Had a similar problem - turned out that the throttle cable had got snagged, which would rev the engine but then the ECU would cut in to try and compensate hence the erractic nature - made limping it to the garage a giggle tho
Wasn't an Omega tho...

Idle control valves have been a problem on Vaxhaull's.I allways used to clean them up with carb cleaner to remove the carbon, then give the internals a good soaking with WD40,let the oil drain, then lube it with a few drops of engine oil.
It allways worked for me.
