Passat V6 TDI
Looking for a load-lugger - can get a 3 year-old Passat V6 TDI manual estate with reasonable mileage for £9-10k. Anyone have any experience with this particular combination, either good or bad?
I appreciate it's not a glamorous choice, but it's only for motorway work.

fantastic motor, very torquey - only 150bhp so not a deal faster than the 1.9 TDI with the old pumpe duse engine. Sits nicely with 5 people boot full 100+ mph up and down hills always got pleanty of guts -
I find the 130 PD is a bit aggressive from the start, but the 2.5 does feel slugish bottom end -
advantages of the 2.5
Masses of midrange
Could pull a house down
nice sounding engine
will do 140 standard
And it doesn't look like a rep owns it
Doesn't eat tyres like the 1.9
Bad points
Not that good on fuel expect as low as 30 and no more than 45, compared to the 1.9 which is more 40+
More expensive to service
Isn't good off the lights
Hope that helps

Thanks - am looking at the 163 version, so prob a bit quicker. As it is, I'm far more concerned with 6th gear acceleration than with standing start, and so long as I can get 35+ as an average I'll be happy. The fuel's paid for, it's just the constant refilling which is annoying (current car averages 250 miles to the tank, a pain on long drives).

I would have thought a more powerful one would be even worse ?
on the 130, nice car but seems to have its fair share of reliability issues, mate has one but its in the dealers a LOT.
