Alfa Romeo 156 JTD 2.4
5-6k for a good one with lowish miles, fully loaded, FSH etc.
Whats the catch? They can't be THAT bad surely??? Can hardly find a bad word about them.
For a company car btw.

nice sounding engine, a little faster than the Audi 1.8 TDi's but the front steering lock is very small and it feels a little nose heavy when driving fast. I know a couple of guys with them, 1 had big problems the other did not.

Had a 156 for a while 2.0 twin spark. Bits fell off, the dealers didn't care, even worse than FIAT dealers and that's saying something.
Nice looking cars though.

John Coates has a column on Alfa's this week in Autocar. The main reason they ae cheap seems to be down to a below average reliabilty record allied to a dealer network which at best seems incompetent. Put that together and you have a recipe for cars' values to plunge faster than the Titantic.
They are not bad cars per se, just that many private buyers prefer to put there money in something that has a far better reputation, leaving the Alfa's cheap for those that are willing to take a chance.
Oh and the 2.4JTD can be tuned very easily for 210bhp. I read a review of one and it went like hot snot, complete with an Audi Quattro 5-cyl warble......

Go down to your dealer and sit in one. If you can get comfortable without removing 2 inches out of each thigh bone and grafting it onto your arms then buy one. I had a 1.8 TS a rental for a week and the driving position was a disgrace.

Forgot to mention that, the 156 has the usual ape like Italian driving position. Never really did any massively long journeys in it but it did used to give me some lower back pain.
