Runabout suggestions?
Ok, not performance car related I know, but bear with me...
I'm know some of you have an old weekday/commuting/shopping car, so please share your experiences.
The old dear is after a new runabout. She does about 15 miles a day through town centre traffic (school teacher) with the odd motorway trip thrown in (about once a month), so we're looking for something economical and reliable.
Obviously her annual mileage will be low, so she doesn't mind buying a high mileage car, but nothing bigger than a small family hatchback, so no ex-fleet Mondeos or Vectras.
Budget is £1500 max.
My initial thoughts are a Mk3 Golf TDI, either from the Trader or a local auctions (Manheim at Haydock). Anything else I should be looking at, or tips of what to look out for on a Golf of this age?
Thanks in advance,
Alex

Hehe, that was also on my list! "Rollerskate" and "ladybird" (if red) are two comments I had when I was forced to drive one for a couple of days.

I had a Peugeot 309 xsi a year or so ago. Was an old E reg, 3 door, 1.6cc. It was a great little fun, chuck-about car that had reasonable poke & was very reliable.... Best of all, it only cost me £400 to buy Sold it now though 'cos I didnt have the space to keep it really..... But, have now found the space to keep our BMW 3 series track car !
