Default Lotus Esprit S1(1976)

Just about to get one of these as a third car and am only going to be using it as a toy a few times a year. I was wondering if anyone could recommend me a company that has been good that will insure it as a classic car even though I have a claim and 5 points as I am wanting to keep the Lotus owning experience as cheaply as possible, which it probably won't turn out to be when bits start falling off it! It will only be doing a few thousand miles per year if that! Or do you recon I am cheaper just getting it insured third party only through a normal insurance company?

Try ClassicLine - 01455 639000.

Lots of Esprit owners use them, limited mileage policies etc. The man you need to speak to is Darren Coote.

If you're really going to use it that little, wouldn't you be better off joining one of those classic car club-type places and taking one out when you fancy?

The car is only costing me £1500, and has only done 50 miles since a full engine rebuild 2 years ago, has been in storage since and has a new battery/ radiator/ discs and pads/ 4 new tyres /window seal, and has pimping 70s brown leather and tartan trim inside it, for the money its a lot of car, handles really well, if it gives me a lot of headache I can't fix myself I'll just bung it in an auction and should get the same money back but it seems mechanically and structurally sound!

Oh, OK then. That would only get you about 6 months membership of one of the clubs!

Is it white?

Yeah it's white and still looks like new cause of the fibreglass body, twin round pop up lights, still has original alloys, inside needs a bit of work but apart from that it looks ace. Has the biggest blind spot of any car I have ever driven so it might be a bugger to reverse in and I don't fancy being in a crash in it, it been made of plastic in all!!!!

My mate bought it for a grand several years ago for the same price but never uses it and he has just paid out 30K on a wedding and is now skint so he is trying to recoup some money, so I cheekily offered to take it off his hands and he agreed!
