Drove a 172 the other day...
All I can say is wow - the 205 GTi is alive and well!!!
Couldn't live with a 172 as an everyday car as they are a bit of a girls car now. But they do seem really edgey. No 'kick' higher up the rev range - must have been driving Turbo cars for too many years.
For the money they seem good value - just have to work out how to persuade the missus to get one...

Bought my wife one last year, with Racelogic traction/launch control and Eibachs - she loves it and I get to borrow the keys for the odd Santa Pod outing! the Mk1's are damm good value for money now.
