Question Buying advice on a 911

Unfortunately not for me, though I will be stealing the keys as often as I can.

A friend of mine has been given first refusal on a Porsche 911. It is going to be advertised towards the end of the week so he needs to decide sooner rather than later.

The spec of the car is as follows:

911 (996) Carrera 2
MY99
6 speed manual
GT3 Sports Pack
19k miles
E/sunroof
Leather sports seats
Silver paintwork

I had a quick look round the car on Sunday and it looks absolutely spotless.

I'm just about to go and buy a copy of Top Marques and will be on the phone to a local Porsche dealer this afternoon.

In the meantime can any body put a rough value on the car?
Is there a Porsche or 911 forum?
Offer any relevant advice?

I don't really know what the GT3 pack includes yet but from my brief viewing it has the body kit and I also noticed drilled discs all round.

The GT3 kit is a body kit only - and should include the 18" Sport Design alloys. Drilled discs are standard on the 996. Personally I think it's a bit of mouth and no trousers - the non kitted ones have a purer shape, unless you really are getting a GT3 which makes it all ok. Anyway, it's not me buying it....

When you speak to the OPC, find out what you need to look for to ascertain that it's a UK spec car. I think the code is C16 and it should be on the sticker on the inside of the front boot lid. Also find out the cost of fitting a Porsche sports exhaust and bear that in mind when negotiating for the car as it will sound stonking with it fitted.

Needless to say a 996 with 19k miles in 5 years should be in absolutely perfect nick and should show no signs of use whatsoever.

GT3 kits stinks of fake Rolex Watch - Certainly does not make the car worth any more.

I also think Silver is a bit naff on a 911.....Speed Yellow is good, Arena Red, Black, Gaurds Red, all good...Silver is just a bit, well, Vauxhall!

Boss Hogg and Dapster - thanks a lot.

I have been over to the Porsche dealership and you are right that the GT3 kit is just cosmetic. The Porsche in question doesn't have the 18" GT3 alloys though, it has the 5 spokers as fitted to the 996 Turbos.

When you speak to the OPC
I'm guessing Porsche Owners Club or equivalent???

I'm not sure the sports exhaust is relevant. The guy who's buying it really isn't that fussed about performance/sound or modifying.............I will do my best though .

Davyboy - thanks, but that's all a case of personal taste or preference.

Silver is the best colour , especially with the black/alu interior. Speed yellow , you get enough maxwell house comments in a silver one never mind bright yellow

Speed yellow is an awesome colour for a GT3.
Not for a C2 though.
