My dads got one and i was surprised by how quick it was..!! Considering they have less power than my car and weight more..!! My car is an MY95 WRX rolling road said 262bhp and 232lb-ft. I think the golf would def give it a run for its money.. especially at high motorway speed..!!

I like them, still pricey though. Think AMD do a few bits for them, and stick a blower on there and you'd be having serious fun!
Think they're bringing out an R36?

A good example I can give is that in similar weather, my Impreza hit a true 138mph (145 indicated) from a standing start to the exact same spot on a radar'ed speed run on an airfield track day. The Octavia reached 136mph.
The Golf has more power and better aerodynamics, so at motorway speeds it would be very close.

Decat a scooby and remap it and 3rd and 4th gears become a totally different kettle of fish
I've had a modded classic Turbo, modded WRX and modded STi Type UK PPP so know a little about Imprezas
. In between had amongst other things a Leon Cupra R and modded VX220 turbo. Now got an R32 remapped by AmD plus Milltek exhaust - 272bhp and around 270ft/lb. It's a surprisingly good, and quick, car. Had it on track twice, at Goodwood, and it has a well set up chassis and is better on it's tyres and brakes than an STi despite being similar weight

Thats an interesting list of cars Dave, think id like to own most of them. I would have thought the Cupra R had more potential than the R32? From memory the R32 is 4wd?
VX220 Turbo must be fairly manic?

1.8T VAG engine is bombproof, 300bhp is no problem, but my Cupra R was scrabbly at the front end with just the standard 210bhp. I did think of chipping it but it would have been wheelspinning all over the place in winter which is why I got rid of it and got the R32. Less potential with this - 300bhp plus is possible from the R32 but VERY expensive - but after nine turbo cars on the trot it is nice to get back to a big NA lump with lots of low down torque and instant throttle response. R32 is indeed AWD and whilst the Haldex clutch makes it only part time AWD it is quite sophisticated and works well. The advantage is that most of the time when the Haldex clutch is not activated you have the advantage of 2WD with lower transmission losses.
VX220 turbo was bonkers cross country fun
Took one on track at Bedford twice (their cars, not mine
) and managed to beat EVO mag's lap time there
