Default Running Costs: Evo 8 FQ300 V's STI 8 PPP

Hi guys,

as the title suggests, I am looking for info from anyone who has had experience of running both an Evo 8 FQ-300 and an STI 8 PPP.

How much worse is the Evo on consumption of fuel, tyres, etc.
How many miles do you get out the Evo on a tankfull?

Thanks

Bob.

I had a sti8 ppp for a year and now i have just taken deliverey of mr340 and so far only done 600 miles so still running in so the fuel is hard to say but i would say under normal driving conditions there is very little in it, but as i say no hard driving yet, well a little bit you cant help it. As for tyres they are not even showing any signs of wear yet, and i dont slow down for courners the car just seems so nimble, where as the subaru was heavy on tyres. Get an mr much better.

It's EVO servicing thats the killer.

Unfortunately I have had neither but have read from other people that the Evo's tank range doesn't go as far as the Impreza, tyre wear is about the same, and servicing is slightly more expensive due to the AYC oil change every 4,500 miles.
But you would hardly buy one of these things and use it as a motorway commuter though would you?

I've had both and there is nothing in it. I disagree with Steve tho', you're looking at £200 per service extra, big deal.

I've got an Evo7 Fq, basically the same car, and an STi8, so I feel I'm qualified to speak

Fuel, the Evo's averaging about 18mpg, Scooby about 25.

Tyres, Evo's worse, but then it goes round the corners quicker.

Servicing, 4500 on the evo compared to 10000 on the STi, which is about 1 service every 12 months for the Scoob, and two for the Evo. The AYC fluid is only changed on a 9000 service. Overall, probably costs about £200 more per year in servicing.

But, you don't buy either car if your going to be worrying about service or running costs, 'cos they're both gonna cost you a fair bit more than an 'ordinary' car.

My advice? If you're going to be doing a lot of driving, over fairly long journeys then the Scoob makes more sense. If you want a car to drive for driving's sake, it's got to be the Evo. It's not to everyone's taste, admittedly, but it's everything I want in a car, and then some...
