Well quick Cossie tonight!
I would never have believed it, but I'll be honest here (unlike Saxo and TT drivers) as I actually came out second to a cossie tonight in straight line power.
I was pulling out of traffic onto a roundabout and I spied him in the door miiror about to pull round me to the outside lane. So I boot it from a rolling cars length and only 'just' beat him to into a space in the outside of a dual carriage way.
I admit that I might have a had a bit of heatsoak from the traffic but by then it should have reduced a bit and this car just caught mine and stayed there. Mucho respect as he was closer that I would normally get to the back of an unknown driver. (and an unknown middle pedal).
Anyway it turned into a mid to top rev-range sprint and he stayed there until we slowed for another car and then as we went I again I pulled out a small lead which he reduced as i changed up a gear.
Then the road ended and I went round the roundabout for round 2 down the empty carriageway the other side. He held right back on the roundabout (I like corners )and we both cruised down the opposite carriageway. I did the same at the roundabout we started at, but he carried on.
Id like to know what was done as my car is no slouch as I did the same thing myself to an EVO the other night. Ive also passed lightly modded UK Scoobs who have said it was 'like they were standing still'. My car is a Type R with a Linked ECU running over 310BHP.
Well impressed though! as it was only a G plate 2wd Sapphire, but it certainly had some grunt for an old taxi.
He either thought he had proved a point, or he had a problem!
Time to fit that 2.5 in my garage me thinks

Why are you surprised, all that would be required would be a stage 2 conv, i.e. a chip, some bigger injectors (green I think), air filter, exhaust and its well over 300 bhp, its lighter and no addition trans losses from 4wd. I think your Scoob in reality would be quiker point to point and not try to kill you as often.

They might be old, but a lot of them can still hold there own reasonably well. Its also very hard to know if its standard, mildly chipped or running crazy power. All part of the fun I guess

Glad its not just me then.
I thought something might be up with my car, the longer you own them the slower they feel. At least I know that it isnt my imagination.

There are some seriously quick Cossies out there. The one you saw could be running anything from 200bhp up to 650bhp in it's highest state of tune.
Someone I know runs a saph with a reliable 520bhp.

Learning curve for you Hol, never underestimate what a Cossie has under the bonnet, very few standard ones around now.... My other half and I have a combined 900bhp plus the NOS he has on his between us Not bad for a 17 year old car and a 10 year old one - is it?

They are deceptively quick. They are also difficult to drive but when you learn how to it does make the car quicker.
A point proved when I finally learned how to launch her and did a standing 1/4 in my old 3-door cossie in 13.7 with 'just' 263bhp.
And then proved again when I kept up with a Lotus Esprit turbo running 300bhp whilst three up. And yes he was going for it
Damn I miss that car
astraboy.

Is it me or is there really no such thing as 'heat soak'???
When my car has been turned off for 5mins and I restart it and sit in traffic for little while my car is not as responsive for the first 30yards or so.
I know lots of people who have the same issue, but now I know of two who never have?
makes me laugh!
Are cossies really laggy (T4?) when they have big power, it may explain how my Vf24 equipped car was quicker initially.

Scoobs generally are way less laggy and you'll nearly always have the jump on a Cossie, tuned or not. Scoob intercoolers are w4nk, but I doubt it'd make one jot of difference in this case - if you're worried about it get an inlet temp gauge.
I never suffered from it - benefits of having a front mount you see

My subaru intercooler is good, but it is made by APS and stuck in the bumper In all fairness though i think that the new age STI intercoolers are holding up well
What are SMIC's like Craig

Strangely enough, mines made by APS too!.
But its still stuck under the scoop.
Im not really worried about temps normally, once you catch some air in the scoop it quickly returns to normal.
I'll keep an eye for the car and see if he can tell what has been done, id be interested to know why he slowed down for the return trip. AND what mods - MILD or WILD.

Never underestimate the stoopidity of a zealous Cossie owner. Because they are always willing to spent twice as much to go just as fast.

I might have identified the Culprit!.
A 2wd saff that lives in that area, right colour, wheel design etc..
Apparently it (if IT is the same car) has just had a serious engine rebuild and big hybrid fitted.
400Bhp has been mentioned.- Which makes me feel better about my straight line grunt!
Someone that knows the owner is going to ask for me.
