2CV's?
As I frequently use my car to travel to Belgium and back... all the time putting more and more miles on me beloved STi.
I reckon its about time I started looking for a cheap runaround for when I'm at home
Now then,
On returning to the UK on Friday,I passed a convoy of Citroen 2CV's on the E40 in France.....all tootling along at 50mphish,all grinning like chesire cats and all of them obviously thoroughly enjoying themselves
...so I have decided
THAT I WANT ONE TOO
and just to complete the wally package, its gonna be blue and logo'd up with the Subaru WRC stickers.lol
has anyone had the misfortune of owning and running one of these abominations?

you've got to have the right sense of humour

...only 4 for sale on the Autotrader website

how cool is that?

John....trust me,mate
I remember back to the early 90's and going to an International 2CV meet at Cheltenham racecourse.
Man,it was really a great a day out
,cars came from all over europe...one was equipped with tank tracks believe it or not
,while another had its seats removed and had replaced them with toilets complete with bog brushes for windscreen wipers

Ya just gotta have the right sense of humour

Ran about in my parent's for a couple of months when my old cosworth was getting rebuilt and must admit it was a laugh. The handling is, apart from being very leany, good and there is no need to slow down once you get the thing flat out.
The comfort factor is nil - basic isn't the word. but at least it is a convertible!!
Gears can be a bit of a mare, my ex drove it home once from the pub with me having to do the gears!!
All in all a fun car to drive in nice conditions but in winter on the M25 with rain lashing down not so good!! And you get the waves from the other owners like the scoob!!!
Go for it!!

Great little motor with it's own sense of humour
the only car I've been in on the motorway and gone through the snow with no problems because of the thin tyres, we use to use one everyday to travel to London and back when I was a milkman, My dad my brother in law and myself, it use to do about 45mpg, and was a feckking good laugh

I was wondering about a 2CV a while ago
They're still cool and from what I've heard, threy tend to run for ever, and will go flat out all day, without complaints.. It's also a cabrio, so you can fit in almost any load possible.
That engine as well. It does sound surprisingly good, considering how small it is

I might just have to get one now

Just go for it

My mum and dad owned them for years and loved them. There's a whole world around them and all the owners just have a sense of humour. You'll not buy something cheaper to run and insure..........
one of my mates has one just been fully rebuilt.
does about 70 flat out but is seriously scary round corners
his whole roof rolls back so brilliant for sunny days.
if it breaks it is so simple to fix due to the simplicity of the whole thing.
citreons spec when making the car was...
"must be able to carry 2 dozen eggs and 2 chickens across a ploughed field at 30mph without breaking the eggs or alarming the chickens"
how good is that!!

I had one in the early nineties...
- experienced damp start problems (but Hey! there's a starter handle for when you flat the battery)
- you learn a lot about momentum
- a real laugh cornering; you can enjoy hooning around at low speeds
- easy to get into if you lose your keys
- it'll always be where you left it
- wouldn't like to have crashed it
I wouldn't mind another, but I'd be missing about 290bhp

I used to drive one a bit back in the eighties (it wasn't mine
), I used to have to drive it through Hyde Park at lunchtimes and noticed how every other car on the road moved well out of my way which was nice, every panel on the thing was bashed in which may have helped it's road clearing properties
Other than that the gears were a laugh, sort of a push me/pull me/twist me affair coming out from the dashboard. Oh and you don't even notice speed bumps in them!
IIRC during their production period weren't they voted the most unreliable car year after year after year?

The first car I ever drove was a Citroen Dyane (sort of like a 2CV but better, not much though).
Fun car to drive but was a total rust bucket. Wouldn't like to have a big crash in one either but they are quiet cool in a cr@p kinda way
Look, see you can rally them aswell!!
