best performance hatch
Audi S3, Leon Cupra R (5 doors), Focus ST170, MkIV Golf GTi (1.8T) or GT TDi (if you don't mind diesels), does it have to be a hot hatch as some coupes offer similar space/practicality Integra Type R (3 door) Accord Type R (5 door) also you'd find it tough to find anything more practical & as fast as a Subaru Impreza WRX (PPP?) Wagon for your money IMO.
cheers for all the suggestions,it can be any size, except v.small like clio/mini,golf size upwards is what i'm looking for, mondeo, octavia and accord has a boot??Must be a hatch or estate, was looking at a audi s4 advant or leon cupra r,any more suggestions?rollers

ok, I know it's not 0-4 years old...but for 15k, you can get a mint Lancia Delta Integrale Evo2, which is more than just a fast hatchback...it's a legend of a car with unbelievable road presence, and awesome performance....I might have to get one myself after saying all that
If Handling and performance are top priority.......
May be a bit dated but you should be able to haggle a brand new MGZS180 for that money.
2.5V6, 0-60 in 7.3 and 140mph. Handles like a classic impreza according to EVO mag.
Hatchback has loads of room.

If ultimate handling isn't such a priority and build and tuneability is more important then I would go for a Skoda Octavia RS

Rollers - what factors are most important to you apart from being a hatchback or estate and having a fair bit of go? Outright power? tuneability? reliability? image? mpg/economy? handling? etc. then you can get more specific suggestions.

I've been looking around for a sensible-ish small hatchback to replace the Scoob for commuting (just costing too much money). My preferred choice at the moment is the Seat Leon Cupra Diesel. 150bhp and 200+ lbft torque. 50mpg and £400 fully comp insurance. £15K would get you a new one through a broker or nearly new through a main dealer. You can get a Revo chip that takes it to 200 bhp and still get 45mpg!

Dracoro,
I'd say you are wrong there.
The WRX turbo wagon is a hatchback version of the WRX saloon, it still uses the same chasis as the saloon and is the same length. Depends what you call an Estate I suppose!
Anyway, Rollers said: "Must be a hatch or estate.."
Don't worry, you're forgiven mate..

Mart.

I was looking for a similar car to you last year. In the end I went for a nearly new Mondeo ST220 hatchback. This car is incredibly spacious - the boot is huge. Performance is good thanks to the quadcam 3.0 V6 and handling is up to the normal Ford standard. These are going dirt cheap on the used market. You can get a top spec one for £14k if you shop around.
I liked mine, but I swaped it for a Focus RS earlier in the year. The Focus is more compromised but great fun.

Martin, I didn't see his other post about estates
My Omega saloon, afaik, has the same chassis and is the same length as my Dad's Omega estate. Granted, cars like the scoob wagon and the lexus is200 'fastback' etc. muddy the waters as they kinda look 'inbetween' a hatch and estate. Maybe someone has a definite description
