Default Quick Smart question...........

Is a Smart car considered to have an automatic gearbox in the eyes of the DVLA?

I`ve a friend who`s come over from Canada and the DVLA say they`ll only issue a manual licence if we can prove a test was passed in a manual car, now, the test was taken years ago so we can`t!

So, will a Smart car be classed by the DVLA as being automatic or is a semi-auto classed as a manual?

Cheers in advance, Simon.

The smart DOES have a clutch, just no clutch pedal.

Its marked up as an Auto on the DVLA V5 document.

That`s the problem! Even the bloke I spoke to at the DVLA `help line` didn`t appear to know!

i think they will class it as Auto... trying to remember what the TESCO insurance web quote had down.. think i tried manual first.. but it regected it... put Auto and it was ok to proceed with the quote..... £365 fully comp with NO NCD a year.. thank you very much

The PURE is a manual 6speed box.. but is it the Pulse and Passion have the full Auto switch to convet from manual change to full automatic?.. have a feeling they have.

Only the Passion and Brabus models come as standard with the 'Auto' switch, our previous Passion and current Brabus both were classed as Auto on the V5 document.

Friends have a Pulse and it has manual mode only, though they did spec it with the paddle shift, which as I can confirm from driving the Brabus makes it great fun.

Regards

Robin
