Golf TDi or Seat Leon Diesel?.........
.....I'm now seriously considering getting a second hand diesel car that will give 50+ mpg for high milage use. The golf and seat leon seam to be very popular and quite spacious inside. Does anyone have any opinions on these? Is the GT TDi Golf the more potent of the lot?
Anyone know which VW web sites to visit that might have good second hand cars for sale?

The 150 bhp Leon is I believe, only in the new Cupra R Diesel, so you might struggle to find one of them at the moment. If you're happy with 130 bhp, then I would agree that the Seat still offers better VFM. They are easily chipped to pretty good bhp and fantastic torque without having too much effect on fuel consumption.

The Octavia is worth a look as well, cheaper than the SEAT, same engine. Mine is great, motorway trips I get about 55+ to the gallon. With the coilovers and the remap its also good for A roads and track days

Indeed, the 130s are the same in all 3 cars. Current shape Octy only goes as far as the 130, although for some reason mine had 147 prior to the remap New shape has the 2.0TDI.

Don't bother with the Golf. Wallows like a mattress in a brothel and has about as much lateral grip as a banana skin on a frozen pond. Bluto's advice: Save up for the Seat.

...I sat in a Leon Cupra 150 Tdi yesterday and will be taking one for a test drive on saturday morning.
I was impressed with what i saw. The build quality and level of instrumentation is excellent and these things have shed loads of torque. You also get around 53mpg and pay only £115 in road fund tax because of its ultra low emmissions.
They also are IMO a stunningly nice looking car.
It will be interesting to compare it to the Scooby.
A two litre Type R Tdi 180bhp is being released in the autumn.
