Noticed an advert the other day in the local paper for the new lotus, was advertised as having a toyota 190bhp engine, how come lotus dont use lotus engines ??!!! or has this been going on for a while ??

now I know that lotus were always known as not having this most reliable off engines !! but surely they have not started to put ultra relaible toyota engines in there cars now have they ??

The elise has never had a lotus engine, the previous ones had a K series Rover, the new Toyota one should be miles better. J

Yes let Lotus get on with what they are good at, Chassis development and Toyota do the engine bit therefore Lotus owners dont get the aggro, A small company like Lotus cant hope to compete engine wise these days anyway, it costs millions to develop a unit from scratch, TVR managed it but hasnt been a resounding success has it ?

this cars just been on Top Gear tonight and the apparent reason for them using the Toyota engine is that because of falling sales in the UK they have decided to try their luck in the states and they have installed this engine because of the stringent emission laws over there.

they quoted performance figures of 0-60 in 4.6 secs and top speed of 147mph from a 1.8 litre engine.hope this info clears it up for you m8, KEV

Cheer for the info folks very interesting, actually missed this weeks top gear episode, anyone know if it is repeated at all ??

take it its probably the same engine as the celica etc that lotus use?? also was there many / any lotus cars that actually used a lotus built engine ??
