Default Trade In for Clio against a Smart Car?

How much would you guys think was a reasonable trade-in value for a Renault Clio 1.2 RN Provence (R-Reg) with about 65000 miles against a new/used Smart Car?

The Smart garage offered 1000 pounds, which seems a bit low seeing as they are advertised on autotrader for 2500-3000 pounds...

Cheeky, as we'd be taking a new car off their hands...

Sounds good to me. Friend of mine was given 200 quid for a 95 cavalier when she bought a brand new citroen piccaso.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter what people want for their cars its what they can sell them for. A lot of the older privately owned cars are overpriced, especially on Autotrader, so don't use that as a barometer. You are right though 1K is probably too low.
If you have definitely decided to buy a Smart from this dealer, you have to ask yourself, will you take a slight loss on it for the convenience of walking away from the car when you want to, or are to going to advertise it for sale yourself and deal with the car buying morons? Myself I'd start shopping around the other Smart dealers for a cash price, and sell the car privately for little more, then buy off whoever gives you the best price. But you may not fancy that, if so the 1K offer is the price you pay for convenience.
