BMW 328i Sport???
I am in the process of selling my Golf VR6 and am thinking of it's replacement… Just thought I would ask on here to see if anyone had experience of an E36 BMW 328i Sport…
I was initially considering an M3, but I can get a newer/lower mileage 328 for less money.
Before anyone pipes up - I know the M3 is a totally different car, and cannot be compared to a 328… I never asked to compare it to an M3 - I just want to hear about peoples experience of the 328i Sport…
What is the drive & handling like, running costs, things to look out for etc etc. What can I expect for around £8000??
Cheers
Mike

The 328 sport will give a few uprated bits over the standard 328 inc M-tech bodykit, 17" BBS x-spoke wheels and LSD.
Unsure about running etc but do watch out for Nikasil-lined engines circa 1996-1998.

I had one for 2.5 years. Great car. Looks fantastic with the polished split rim BBS alloys and M3 aero kit.
I had silver with black.
Try and get one with the LUX pack (most have these) - full leather, climate etc.
What to watch out for: I think there was an engine recall. Also, watch out for scratches on the wheels - they corrode on the polished areas if the lacquer has been scratched.
Also on the wheels: Some 'cheap' repairs of the wheels paint over the polished area - spoils the wheel so take a close look.
Anything else specific you want to know?

cheers Skittles!
At £8k, am I going to be able to find a decent one?
I was trying to limit the cars mileage to under 70k, but will one with, say, 90k still be decent? Folk say that BM's, Mercs etc can go on for many miles, but I have seen a few that look and drive quite tired with 100k+....

Re mileage, I have never owned a high miler BMW but there are lots about and they do have a reputation for eating up the miles - in particular motorway miles.

Mileage is more than I was expecting... I would have gone to 100k but not as high as that. Price is excellent for the miles though! There are some on autotrader with similar miles for £6500! Your friend should try there or ebay!

V Nice Car!
Had one in silver with black interior it had lux pack so was full leather, it was a '98 R and had it from when it was about 18 months old. I loved it-not a 'break your neck' powerful car (192bhp I think...) but such a smooth engine with loads of torque a really comfortable, well built, sexy looking (IMO) car. With regards to the price I paid £20k for mine frommain dealer but this was 1999/2000, if I remember correctly it had just under 40k on it. Hope this helps.
Matt
P.S Make sure (if it's not standard) you get the Harmon Kardon system in it-it's worth it.

They go forever with prescribed servicing.
A workmate has one with over 200k on the clock and it drives and pulls like a new motor.
Lovely, smooth engine and decent grunt (193bhp). Only 1bhp over the 325i but more torque.
Don't be scared of high milers as long as it has a good service history and has had BMW's recall to sort bore wear.
