Default had a test drive in a smart roadster coupe yesterday!!!

wow!!

maybe looking at a second car for a runaround? so went for a go in one of these, all I can say is, go for a run in one, its wicked! I was smiling all the way through, the girl who took me was cool, she just said boot it. I was like ok....

I got 120mph out of it! WTF!!! these cars are group 2 yes 2 insurance! they will do a top speed aparantly of 125mph??? 700cc turbo, you ought to hear the little turbo spooling in the back lol.

best part the tank will hold about £26 in fuel, and it will return approx 60 mpg

insurance lol, quoted 120 fully comp with minimal excess.

cant afford one at the minute, but when they drop in price like the smart cars have Im there.

Question

Yeah but what about the gear change.....

I heard it completely buggers up the whole driving experience?

Default SMART ROADSTER

nearly bought one myself after a test drive.ins group is a 7 at least.and with paddle gear changes its excellant.but have a look at www.smartclub-uk.com and read the horror stories of severe leaking roofs.i.e a 40 page document was found at a dealership listing all the leaks that are known about.water pouring in via wing mirrors which destroy the stereo system or seat belts so saturated you cant wear them and no dealer fixes that work.major design fault in seals for the roof etc. which has ruined a great car i.m.o.

must admit it was a bit clunky at first, it was ok once used to it. I commented on that myself, but its something id get used to.

as for the roof, she admitted that to me as well, however they have sorted all faults out now apparantly? there is a new roof on models now, much similar to the smart pulse etc.

just one turbo I think? it was bloody quick though, asked if it had a limiter like on the pulse etc, she just said no.

insurance as is on parkers shows ins group 3!!!

I too took a test drive in one of these little buggers - had me laughin and giggling like a kid for the whole test drive ! It really does sound like a toy Porsche - honest ! Little wastegate fluttering away etc.

The gearbox is ok, but not great. It's one of those 'feels faster than it is' cars. I had a right giggle.

Thing is, you'd have to have the Brabus version, and there's no way on this planet you can justify spending something like £18k on one ! Not when a Clio 182 Cup can be had for £12k.

However, I think the naming of this particular car is a little, er, optimistic ?!?

IMO it's over tyred, more grip than handling, gearchange is appalling, well not set up for having fun anyway...didnt seem to allow me to change down when I wanted to

Slow, very slow unless chipped, how did you get 120mph out of it when max speed according to the manufacturer is 109mph ( speedo error ??? ) the 0-62 mph is also 13odd secs so was the one that you drove chipped...?

Only time they feel fast is when you are reversing them out of the garage

Daimler Chrysler give them away to employees just to show sales...
