Damn - Mi16 big ends have gone :(
Just taken my Pug for a leak down/cylinder balance test, due to its continuing oil burning, and the guy has confirmed that my big ends have gone, and probably valve seals, so it needs a full rebuild.
Anyone know likely costs for this?
Looks like I may have to pull out of the Scooby shootout now.

Thats the thing with the Mi16's in my opinion.... they are a great high HP car but they seem to break more than the 8 valve motors......
sorry to hear it though mate and good luck with the rebuild

I think the problem with the Mi16 motors is that people buy the engines from scrappers for £300 with the scrapyard mucker saying "oh yeah, its only done 45k miles - wink, wink ".
They then pay someone who reckons they know what they are doing to fit the engine, then they go off and razz them around for a bit.
In reality, the engines have probably done more like 200k miles to start with, and have usually been stood in a scrapyard for ages, so they dont last long.
In theory, an Mi16 engine in a 205 is not being as stressed as it is in the 405, the car (and weight) it was designed to propel, so a rebuilt and properly installed Mi16 engine should last for years.
If I had a garage I would do the rebuild myself for about £600, but its a bit hard to start taking engines out in the street

I think you are right mate. The pug forum I use have more Mi's off the road then on it all the time. If you have a proper sorted car with proper sorted electrics you have it cracked. Anyway that isnt helping you mate.
I hope you find someone who will do a proper job for you at a reasonable price, and of course while she is bits it would be rude not to fit a hairy cam etc

Going by the price of my V8s' top end rebuild, I'd guess more like £900-1k, to be honest
Sorry to hear about the problems...
To take the engine out, which I assume you'd have to do for that car, it's about 2-4 hours, & then to strip down, rebuild, & buy all the parts.
You get the idea
Hope it goes well
Also hope it's cheaper than mine was

He's giving me a price for rebuilding, and a price for fitting another Mi16 unit if I can find one, so will wait til he gets back to me.
