Question Scoob Forester (?!)

Need to sell my MY00 Impreza to get something to tow a horse trailer......

Would prefer something at least a bit different to the norm and was thinking about a Forester turbo - Jap import of course

So anyone got any experience of these - what they like to drive everyday? costs? what to look out for?
Best places/websites to get a Jap import model?

Don't want to spend much over 4k on it.

Any info you've got......

Import Forester turbos will be from 1997 onwards and cost roughly £500/£750 less than the equivalent Impreza. A good cond. model with average miles will be about £6000.
For £4000 you will get a NA UK or JDM Forester.
Running cost wise will be like an Impreza and performance wise (240 bhp) will be as per a UK Impreza up to about 80 mph (without horses attached).

From my bitter experience, avoid 97/98 models anyway as they tend to suffer from piston slap as per the Impreza. If you come across one with slap then drop the price by £2000.
There's plenty for sale on the Autotrader website at moment.

www.subaruforester.com

you'll be lucky to get an early ('97) turbo for that sort of money, they don't depreciate as bad as impreza's

They have all the same notable issues as imprezas of the same vintage, piston slap , clutch judder , thirsty - you know the score by now.

Very stealth though ....

I've got a MY99 JDM Forester and it's fantastic.

I've never had an Impreza so can't make the comparison but it's pretty quick. My understanding is that essentially you've got an Import WRX with a different body shell on it.

I bought mine at a UK auction for £7,000 then had the costs for SVA etc on top. I shopped around a lot and MY97's were going for around £8,000 at dealers through to about £10,500 for a MY99.

I didn't see anything close to the £4,000 mark though.

A few of them around but not as common as Impreza's.

I bought it as I wanted something with a bit of performance but have a 2.5 year old son and one on the way so it seemed ideal.
