Dont know much, but they're a bit pricey to insure They will be quite economical, unless you drive it hard, in the VTEC zone, where it will dip into mid teens.
Try the Honda Revolutions board.

Put it this way, I pay about 1k on an STi, the S2000 was a few hundred more. They do get crashed quite a bit it would seem...
Honda's are always pricey. Try L&V if you're over 30.

Me too
Its a tricky one. The power doesn't come from nowhere, so anything decently quick drinks fuel. Anything decently quick is also a bugger to insure.
Whats your criteria, price etc?

The problem is i currently do a lot of miles. Our house is up for sale next week and then we will be moving a lot closer to work. I don't have any problems with the scoob's MPG (i get about 33mpg to and from work), its the expensive services every other month.
I was looking for get a Fiesta Zetec-S as a second car to go to work in, but i'd have to buy it on finance as my scoob saps all my money + more, meaning i only have 1000 to put down. I know that it would be a hell of a lot cheaper (AND moving soon) but then i have the niggling problem i may not use the scoob enough to warrant 1800 insurance and the finance i am paying on it.
I am also a little worried that its just come out of its warranty, so doing 80 miles a day is a bit of a scare, considering the price to fix things on it ! SO i was just considering a few options!
I would have rushed down and had a new WRX PPP (now there is free servicing for 30k), however i misread the website and it seems the 0% finance is only on the GX model, making the WRX out of my budget.

When you say servicing costs, I wouldn't bother with the main dealers. There are some very good ways of running them quite cheaply, if you know where to get sensors / parts from.
For example, my last service was with Len at Subar4You. Rocker gasket replaced and a minor service. £130 (plus oil)
Dealer would have charged more than that for the labour! I note you say its out of the warranty period, which is more of a reason to go to a specialist. MY00 are pretty reliable, so wouldn't worry too much.
If you can live with the fuel consumption, then they are only really as expensive to service as a VW etc, so you may trade in, be unhappy, and not save anything at all.
If you're getting 33mpg, I suspect its running lean, and your MAF is dead, so add £90 to all ive said above

Im 26 and Tesco quoted me £700 on a MY00, worth a try. Was paying £800 with Greenlight when I was 24 too.
Sound like its more the repayments on the car itself are the concern... If so, the only answer is to buy something cheap for a while.

I'm already with tesco - but I'm 21 with 2yrs NCB
I had my last service done at a specialist but it ended up nearly as much as scoob dealer, due to them replacing my brake discs etc (i normally by them at cost from my friend).
The car isn't running lean - i just stay below 3k revs at all times during the commute. Had a new MAF under warranty.

Just winding you up re the MAF
But, as you're finding out, these are performance cars, and cost money to run An S2000 would cost you at least 16k for a good one, too, and no cheaper to run.
Get an Integra type R or a Clio 172 (cheap to insure!) much more suited to commuting etc.

I was thinking bout the clio actually. Would be a bit shat not to hear the burble tho I think i'm using the servicing as an excuse i think my main concern is it going bang, me having no way to pay for repairs, and then not being able to get to work.

I thought that, but you'd just buy a recon lump for £2k ish, and sell it, and admit defeat if and when it happened
I wouldn't worry though, they're pretty tough if the MAF doesnt cause it to die!

Dunno where 2k would come from, i dont have that kind of space left on my cards due to service after service and not managing to pay all of the last one off before a new one comes
Mine's had a new engine once (under warranty), just hope its not greedy !!! Then there's always the gearbox... ARGH!
Oh, and the roof doesn't go down when you're cruising the lovely cornish lanes

www.s2ki.com is a good place to start!
I am seriously considering one of these now too.
You are pushing your luck looking to get one for 16k though, nearer 18 would be my guess. There are plenty around the 20-22k mark and a new parallel import for 23k otr.

The S2000 was the cheapest car to run I've ever had.
Service £130 each time from main dealer (once a year or every 9000 miles)
Fuel - about 30mpg on average, 17mpg on track day, 20/25mpg hard driving, 40mpg taking it very easy on the motorway!!!)
Tyres - £400 tops for a set (not from main dealer of course!)
My insurance was about £900 per year.
Erm, that's it. These things rarely go wrong and most problems would've been sorted during warranty so as long as it's got a full service history and warranty stuff has been done (apart from recalls, check for new clutch as the older ones tend to go but replacement ones are usually solid).

Have seen one or two around the 15-16 mark but not many... Reluctant to travel many miles on the off chance...

Get an S2k. You'll never regret it. You can cruise round town or give it to your mum to drive and its a nice sensible car - wind it round the clock a little and its bonkers big smiles all the time. The faster feeling car I've ever driven, thanks mainly to the noise and the wind in the hair feeling. Excellent value for money and I reckon cheaper to run than a scoob.

Forgive the small Hijack!
Mark, where is Subar4You where you got the service done? Have you got their number?
As for S2000, I'd have thought that driving it sensibly (i.e. commuting) you'd get better mpg than a Scoob, plus it's probably gonna hold it's value better (especially around summertime!). I believe you can also get the later suspension settings put on to the MY00 era cars at Honda dealers which transforms the handling.

watch dealer servicing... some fleece the punters because they drive and s2000 / NSX and have sliding scales. The cars are as simple to service as a Jazz and the times are virtually the same in terms of book time to service... yet there can be 100's of pounds difference.... overall I believe they are more expensive to service but don't require as much servicing if you see what I mean...
On the car... My mates car is very good in the dry and on the track is most excellent with good mpg but anything like a mist in the air they turn into a tailhappy demon

Ha ha
When I moved insurance from my modded MY01 to a brand new S2000 it was 70 quid cheaper for the S2000 and the car was worth 8 grand more.
As for running costs, 1 year, 9000 miles and its much more fuel efficient esp on long runs. Servicing is likely to be shed loads cheaper, somthing like 150 for the year(if not less iirc) gets a bit more later on but nothing like a big service on a scoob would be. Also depreciation is much better..................Ive never looked back, its also more rewarding to drive.
Lots of ex Impreza owners on www.s2ki.com very friendly community, fire all your questions at em My scoob bled my wallet dry, s2k ownership has so far cost me a tax disc and some petrol..............that is it, ok I owned from new, but by now I would have already have service my scoob, spent more in petrol, lost more in depreciation etc etc etc.........
Oh and the s2000 turns heads, fit girls heads as opposed to Scoobs, they turn spotty young burberry wearing chavs heads...........I know which I prefer to attract the attention of

Sod it, I think i'll try one!
Had a look at a colleagues today (again) and was impressed as ever.
Here's the really scarey bit....
I went online banking, and looked at how much and how often im filling up... (not really payed attention to it before)
£40+ fill ups, 6 times in 1 month 5 times a month on average = £200. Not good. I do about 250 miles per week.
Ok, I should be expecting it, but ive never looked before, and to see it on paper is damned scarey.
Honda might pay for itself.
