Default RX-8 Is it a Coupe?

I know its a 2+2 and i know from the outside its looks like it has two doors but in reality it has rear doors too.

Does this mean its a coupe or not a coupe, that is the question.

But surely as it's "pillarless" (i.e. if you wind down front and rear windows there's no B pillar at all) it's a coupé?

who gives a **** what it is? Its still a nice looking car. Anyway, i thought coupe meant a car with a slanty roof line and a rear hatch instead of a boot?

nope, there are many coupes with no hatch

Dictionary definition:

cou·pé
n.
A closed four-wheel carriage with two seats inside and one outside.
also coupe (kp) A closed two-door automobile

So my first car, a Nissan Micra, was a coupe according to your definition?

It's not "my" definition, it's that of Websters dictionary

By "my" definition, no a Micra would not be a coupe, however an RX8 would. I would define a coupe as 2 or 2+2 seating with a sloping roof with either a hatch or boot

Cool

A coupé (to give it its correctly accented spelling) is a two or four-seater car with a fixed roof, a sloping back, and two doors. The style is generally used for sportier models in a manufacturer's range.

A coupe is actually

a dish of fruit and ice-cream served in a goblet-shaped glass bowl.

On second thoughts I think I prefer the sound of the second definition.

I seem to remember Rover doing a very nice 4 door coupe in the 60's, basically a P5 with a 3" roof chop IIRC.

The term coupe (fr: cut) was originally used by auto stylists to descibe the lowering of the roof on a standard model to give a sleeker looking version, i.e: a chop, as yank hotrodders would call it. The door quantity is irrelevant, what makes a coupe is a roof low enough to damage any hairstyle other than a skinhead, & rear legroom minimal enough to qualify as a holiday charter jet Oh yeah, and a ride hard enough to get you on first name terms with a good dentist & chiropractor

Ah yes - I remember the days of the RX7 - now there was a coupe.

But now we have the RX8 - a coupe or a disfigured bus? Well there is the question...Personally I think its a mutant mazda 6 hatchback...Ewww

Wouldnt touch one with yours
